I "have" to be at WDW in June for a conference the weekend of june 24th..
i have hotel reservations for the 3 days of the conference (the conference is at one of the DTD area non-disney hotels - the buena vista palace)...

but since i have to be there, i'm going to fly in a week early, to get in some WDW time before the conference...
i'll be there on my own that week and want to stay in one of the disney onsite resorts, but i haven't made reservations yet (i haven't even decided where i should stay yet)..

do you think they'll have better deals if i wait until right before i go?

What dates will it be for? what kind of budget?
I have been looking for August, we still have 1 night to book before we check into RPR, some good rates about but I am holding out for an AP rate at RPR, add a night onto that reservation, just not paying the $250 they want right now, other 3 nights I have at $152.

Do you have an AP? They will be the best last minute deals really.

From mousesavers.com:

Stay dates: 6/4/10-8/14/10. Get a 25%-40% discount off regular "Rack" rates. Percent off varies by resort type. Use code QNY. Some dates will be blocked out. Rates not available for all dates and resorts.

* Save 25% at Disney Value Resorts when you stay 1 or more nights
* Save 30% at Disney Moderate Resorts when you stay 1 or more nights
* Save 35% at Disney Deluxe Resorts when you stay 1 or more nights
* Save 40% at Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts when you stay 1 or more nights

Note that you CAN add tickets and Dining Plan to this offer, effectively making this a vacation package. If you do this, your booking will probably fall under the vacation package rules. You must book room and tickets to get the dining package. Code for room + tickets + regular Dining Plan is QOX.

the dates will be june 16th - 23rd...

i'm so confused looking at the rates...

i think i will get an AP...and also a tables in wonderland card...

i'm hoping to get back again within the year with DH (for the PCC 2.0 in december).....and then again with DD and DS (and their respective SOs)...
so i'm willing to make the investment in the AP now...just the regular AP, not the premium (maybe i can upgrade the regular one to the premium when i come back with the rest of the family?)..

anyway...
i'd like to spend as little as possible on this trip....i'll be on my own...what a total waste of money to spend more than necessary when it's just me...
but i'll still look at all the possibilities...sometimes the more expensive resorts have better deals, making them only slightly more than the cheaper ones...

i'm also going to look into some of the tours....i never take the time to do them when i'm with the family, but i'd really like to go on the backstage magic tour and maybe another.....

Those rates aren't for AP holders. Just a regular discount.

I think you'll need to give WDW US reservations a ring to clarify which resorts and discounts are available. But could really save you some good $$ if your dates meet a resort you fancy. :)

There are some AP rates for your dates too though. :)

i just put in for a quote from dreams unlimited..
i've never done that before, but i'm willing to try it this time around..
i usually call up WDW US on my own and try to work through all the rates...
but i'm going to see how it works with dreams....
see what they come up with....

i got the quote from DU - it's based exactly on the rate quoted above, the 25% - 40% off...

looking at mousesavers, i see the AP rates are only out up to june 3rd...
so i guess i should wait a little longer, to see if the AP rates are extended to my dates...

i really can't see myself spending $728 to stay at Pop Century for a week..
that's $104/night - and that's with a 25% discount!
gee....$104/night to stay in what is essentially a bargain basement type motel....and that's the discounted rate...seems astronomically expensive, considering what you get for that...

by the way, that's the nightly rate including taxes....

For same price you can stay at 5* Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress or at one of the 4/5* Hilton Grand vacation clubs (from $80/night)

Cheapest I can see Pop is easyclicktravel.co.uk $96(£62) crazy price.
Hope you find a cheaper rate

and that $96 rate probably doesn't include taxes...so once you add on the taxes it gets to be....hmm....what are the resort taxes there now?...11%?...something like that...
so $96 + tax would be $106/night....more than the $104/night...

by the way, that's something people should keep in mind when they get quotes....
the per night quote doesn't include the taxes, which i think amount to about 11%...which really hikes up the price significantly, if you're on a tight budget..
however, when you get a quote for the total amount (the entire vacation), they usually include the taxes...

by the way, i could get a 2 BR suite at one of the lake buena vista suite hotels for $88/night..

but since i'll be by myself, i want to be onsite...so i guess i'll be paying a big premium for that..

Incl tax.
Slightly cheaper(only a few pence) on GTAhotels.com after 8% cashback on Quidco.

oh, that includes taxes?..then it is a better rate than the discounted disney rate..

i'm going to wait for the AP rates....last time i booked the pop (for DD), the AP rate went as low as $65 plus tax....so i think it's worth it for me to wait and keep my fingers crossed that an AP rate will be released..

it's not as if all the hotels will book up..

do the disney onsite resorts appear on expedia? i have to go check that out..
i remember getting an incredible rate for DD for her weekend in NYC when i got it at the last minute on expedia...literally at the last minute..
i booked her hotel on expedia while she was flying to the states...can't get any more last minute than that... :goodvibes
when she landed in new york, she called me up and i told her where to head in the city....it was an incredible rate...and when i called the hotel to see if i could book that rate directly with them (since i was still afraid of booking with expedia) the rate they gave me was 60% higher!!

so maybe i should wait until the very very last minute...
i mean, it's just me by myself....
i can take the risk and see what comes up...
especially given how high the rates are right now anyway..

I have used Expedia for years, again for flights last August and this August but they are so out of touch with hotel prices.
Pop for your dates £90.50/night incl. About $140/night.

AP rates are probably best way to go but too early.
I was reading a few days ago some offsite hotels last year they were running at about 64% occupancy, this past year down to 58%, if thats true its almost half their rooms empty all year, I guess its partly bad economy and partly Disney offering free DDP & free gift cards.
No idea on Disney occupancy rate but just can't see how they can get over $100/night for a basic room.

just for fun, i went to the website of the new waldorf astoria that's on disney property (or what used to be disney property)..

anyway, i can get a room there for $179/night...
we're talking a luxury onsite hotel (it includes disney transportation) for only $179/night...for not even twice the pop price....come on....how ridiculous is that?????????????????????????????

i mean, what do you think is better value for money? staying at the waldorf for $179/night? or the pop for $104/night?

and i wonder if you get free internet at the waldorf.....that would reduce the difference by another $10...

me thinks disney is a tad overpriced....

Waldorf is on Travel Republuc at £103 ($157) incl tax
Next door is Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek with lazy river pool, £73 ($111) incl tax

Not location you want but saw a bargain at the 5* Rosen Shingle Creek about £46/night ($70) incl tax

wow, Wayne, those are incredible prices...

i have to call the hilton and waldorf to see if i can get a discount with my hilton honors membership (they're actually both hiltons, the waldorf is their luxury brand)..i tried to enter it online, but i don't have the pin code...so i'll call....

ok.....as you all already know about me....i'm an annoying disney purist...
but they have to have their heads examined if they think i'm going to spend that much money for pop, when i can basically be onsite for the same price at a much better hotel...with hallways....and nice bathrooms....

oh oh Wayne,.....could it be i'm about to be converted in reverse?

We didn't like ASMovies so would never stay in value again at any price but its mad you can stay 5* for almost same price as a value room.
Also compare to our OKW deal for August, £100($153) per night but includes DDP for upto 4 people, who pays $100+ for a value?:confused3

yes, the disney.uk free DDP deal at the OKW is beyond fantastic, and truly makes it difficult to pay the regular US rates...
but for one thing, i'm not going during free dining this year...
and for the other, i wouldn't be able to get the UK rates anyway....oh how i wish i could..... :sad1:

i just looked at the hilton bonnet creek website...the pool looks really nice...
although i'll be on my own, so i doubt i'll even put on a swimsuit...

have you ever used travel republic?

have you ever used travel republic?

I haven't but I know many who have and use them regular, someone posted recently they charge a % even if paying by debit card which is a bit naughty when they only pay about 15p but if the price is right a small fee for debit/credit card is worth paying.
I almost used them for Easter but found a better deal on Monarch hotels site with 5% cashback.
