We are going on the August 21st Magic cruise and this time we are using Budget since there rates are much lower than Avis.

What has been your experience with Budget?

How is the shuttle service?

Thanks for any feedback,

Hi Jeff....we just used Budget for the 2/7/04 Magic cruise. We booked two, one-way rentals. We booked online at their website. One from the airport to Cocoa Beach on Friday and the other when we disembarked the ship on the 14th for back to the airport.

Hubby dropped me and the rest of the group witht he luggage at the ship terminal. He then went to return the rental at Budget. He said it was crowded at Budget but since he was only 1 person it was easy to get on the shuttle back. He said bigger family groups with luggage had to wait for another shuttle.

We checked ourselves in while hubby was at budget and all he had to do was go up to the line and show the CM his picture ID and pick up his KTTW card. She had already processed his paperwork.

On the return......you must pick up the shuttle in the outer parking lot....first we hailed a porter and checked our luggage in at Delta at the port. Then we walked across the street and saw a long line for the Budget shuttle. We saw a cab just waiting there so we asked how much to Budget....it was $8. Well worth since it looked like we would have been on about the second or third shuttle if we waited on the line.

Got to budget and there was no line...picked up our SUV and were on our way in just a few minutes!!!

We have also used Avis in the past...but Budget was cheaper and Avis is no longer the most convenient since they moved their location away from the Radisson.

Hi MJ
What time did your DH drop you are the port to check in? We are planning the same thing, and I wanted to get an idea about time. Also I know you said you checked in without your DH, so he just had to go to the check-in and show ID?

And last nosy question, what did you do before your flight left for home?

Thanks so much

I just made reservations yesterday with Bugdet for our November Wonder cruise. We has used both Avis and Budget. Budget's rates were better than Avis and it is about a mile closer to the port, also very close to a gas station for the drop off. We also had DH drop us at the port and I checked everyone in and they held his KTTW card until he arrived. He just went to the counter of the CM I used, showed his photo ID and they gave him his card. It was very easy. We usually get to the terminal between 10:30-11 AM.

Bumping this up 'cause I'm interested in this also. We'll have a one day rental. Hadn't thought about DH dropping me and luggage at the dock (?) (Can you tell it is our first cruise??)

It is just the two of us  and the luggage. Is it a good idea for him to drop me off??

Any one with any more ideas or suggestions??

We just did Feb. cruise. We arrived at the port at 10:30. I dropped everybody off and went to budget office. I was back at the port with in less than 30 min. The Disney busses arrive much later so the terminal was relatively empty. 2 from our party got in line for boarding. When boarding started at 11:50, the rest of the family joined them in line. Pretty much everyone was doing this. No point making the kids stand in line when they could be sitting watching TV.

About what does it cost to rent a car both ways? We are looking at going with a limo or town car with driver. The Limo was $300.00 and the town car $200.

Just got back this weekend. It was about $60 each way for us. We went ahead and got insurance, because we didn't know if our car insurance covered rentals. Check it out before you go! It could save you some $$$.

When we got off the Magic, our wonderful luggage carrier "JR" took us straight to the rental car pickup area. When we got there, there was one Budget van loading and they left. We waited for maybe 10 minutes and the van came back. But I needed that time to put my stuff from that morning into my suitcases and rearrange a few things. There was one family of 3 ahead of us, but somehow the Budget driver amazingly got all of their luggage and ours into the very next shuttle. A quick drive to Budget, a short line, and we were off! We were shopping at Downtown Disney at 10:00 a.m.!:Pinkbounc

In Feb 2004 I rented from Budget at MCO and dropped the car off at Cape Canaveral. No problems, and they gave is a shuttle to the port.

On the return trip, there were also no problems. I will rent a car from them again.

We reserved two one-way rentals for a Ford Windstar Minivan from Budget for our October/November 2004 cruise. They are $60.46 (including tax and srucharges) each way.

It seems the logical choice for our family of five.::yes::

doombuggy...we were in line waiting for the parking lot to open...I guess it was about 10:20 that they opened the parking lot for drop offs...you can see in the pic below how the cars were lined up waiting to get into the port parking lot. You would make the left by the gate into the port to drop off luggage. If you were to park they would direct you to the lot across the street.

Hubby kept his drivers license and I had his cruise docs. He just needed to show ID to get back into terminal and they just show the CM in the line we checked in on his ID again to get his KTTW card.

jamashp....you may want to rethink the minivan. We also are a family of five and thought the minivan was the way to go. Turns out there was hardly any storage space in the back for luggage. The next time we reserved an SUV. Tons more luggage space and easily seated five. When we booked the price was not that much different.

Thanks, good to know that we may have to wait in line to get in.

We are going to be on the August 21st Magic, too! Last time we cruised, we rented from Avis. It worked out well, but I've been trying to decide what to do this time.

Does anyone know why the quotes I'm looking at come up double for the return rental vs. the first????? It happens with Avis, too.

Did you use a discount code for your Aug. 21st rental?

Getting the car rental taken care of will be the last piece of our puzzle...

We will be using Budget in 3 weeks for our cruise. If DH drops us off at the port, what does he need to keep on him to get back in. I know he will need his picture id; will he need his cruise docs to get past security, or should I have them so I can check him in?

PinClubs and DuncanLL -

We will also be on the 8/21 Magic. There are a bunch of Disers on that cruise. We have a thread up in the cruise meets section, please join us.

My family used Budget in December and will use them again in August. No problems, drivers were great.

We're just off the Magic 3/13 sailing. We used Budget both ways. It was great. Cost about $70.00 (no insurance) for the 2 days car rental. It was a great saving for a family of four. My husband dropped the kids and me off at the terminal, and he returned the car. On Sat, we checked our luggage at Delta, went to the shuttle area, it arrived within 3 minutes. One person in line in front of us at the rental car office.

I just made two one-way rental reservations with Budget for April. I found that using no discount code gave me a cheaper rate on a mini van.

Upon debarking, has anyone sent one person to Budget to rent and have them come back to the port to pick up you and the luggage?

Yes....one person can hop the shuttle to the rental place...we have done that in the past. The rest of you will have to wait under the white tent in the outer parking lot of the DCL terminal. The driver of the rental car can then come into that parking lot and pick up the rest of the group and luggage. This is actually the best way to do it if you have a larger group and/or a lot of luggage. Much easier to get on person on the shuttle than a bunch with luggage.

Mouseclick......hubby just had his photo ID...I had his documents. When he got off the shuttle at the port he just went up and showed the CM that checked the rest of us in his photo I.D. and she gave him his KTTW card.

We just rented Budget for our 3/13 trip. They were great. On the way to the port we had to pass the Budget office so we just loaded all of us and our luggage in the shuttle. The driver told us that because of security, only DCL passengers are allowed in the Disney area, so we had to drop off the Carnival passengers first, but it was still very quick and efficient.

On the way back DH just got the shuttle to the office and came back to pick us up at the port. It took him about 1/2 hour. We didn't even go out to the tent, we just waited on the benches next to the terminal.

I got great rates through the Costco website - I wish I could remember how I got there! I'll try to see if I can find it again. I had originally booked with Avis because I thought they were still at the Radisson but the rates with Budget were less than HALF of Avis'. They were very helpful too - told us not to go anywhere near the convention centre because Bush was there and all sorts of stuff would be blocked off for security.

well we flew into mco on tuesday picked up budget there and on thursday drove to cape and dropped off the car. i hapen to have the bill right here $80.74, included gas option. had a shuttle van just the 3 of us. they even had to wake the driver from his nap..lol.. went on cruise thurs to sun picked up shuttle at port to cape picked up car since we had all day in disney on sunday before flight home. price was $35.99. hope this helps. i would definatly use this system again. the ride to and from port and cape was under 30 minutes, matter of fact i would say 15 - 20 the most. we had no traffic.
