Lent yet? DS and I were talking about it, noticing that it begins on March 9. I suggested that TV would be a really good thing for him to give up. He suggested I give up...THE DIS! I would definitely be in withdrawal!

Not Catholic either but I thought you were supposed to give up luxuries not necessaties. And the DIS is necessary!

 Oh my gosh! ROTFLOL!

That's a very bright son you have there! What did you say!

Lent actually begins on Ash Wednesday which is March 5. Now giving up the DIS, that would be a sacrifice.

I gave up the DIS the year before last, until I got laid off a few days before Easter. I had given it up so I'd have more time for better things, but I suddenly had lots of time and needed something to keep my mind off the fact that I was laid off, so I took it back up. It was okay, but I don't think I'll be doing it this year. :)

How long does Lent last? Anything over 24 hours and I couldn't do it. What did you and your son decide?

Giving up the DIS would be like giving up all food and just drinking water.

We have not decided what we are doing for Lent, but it definitely will not be giving up the DIS....I believe I have become addicted:)

I'm not Catholic, but I do choose to participate in observing Lent and sacrificing something. I usually fast on Wednesdays and Fridays, and I try to give up caffinated beverages.

Sandy, do we need to talk to your ds?;)

I'm not Catholic either. I guess that means I don't have to give up the DIS (according to your ds's Lent suggestion).;)

I guess he gets to keep the TV?!?!?!:p

and, although while growing up, we also "gave up" things for Lent, as a grownup, I now prefer to change/add something POSITIVE during Lent.

Like this year, I am really going to try to be nicer to my husband. He is a terrific guy, and I have to admit that I am very quick-tempered with him and he doesn't deserve it.

So, I'm going to try to be more patient with him and not fly off the handle for little things. That, to me, is harder than giving something up and it has a more positive effect for everyone involved.

I will, though, observe the fasting and abstinence (no meat on Fridays) as dictated by Catholic law.
