Have You Taken Keflex Before?

I've never taken it.

Good, bad, and ugly of it?

I generally don't do great on antibiotics. Just wondering if this is one of the milder ones.

This one gave me mild indigestion, but so do prenatal vitamins, LOL! DD1 is allergic to it---they told us she would need to avoid sulfa-based meds.

Yes, I've taken it. And that's how I discovered that I'm allergic to sulfa-based meds. I guess I'm glad I found that out but I don't think that's how I wanted to find out!

I took this years ago and it made me sick. It was in capsule form so the doctor told me to open it and take the contents in whipped cream. That did the trick!

I've taken it a few times and never had a problem with it. Good luck! :wizard:

I just had a sinus infection and the doc prescribed it. I am also allergic to sulfa. Anyway, I was suppose to take two a day. I could only take one. Keflex made me extremely tired and I kept coughing the whole time. I gave up after 6 days and ended up in the bathroom terribly sick on the 7th day until it was all purged out of me. I do feel better now. This is an older antibiotic and is suppose to be gentler. I don't care for it.

The first thing the doc prescribed was Biaxin. After reading all the potential side effects and patient reviews on the net, I refused to take Biaxin.

I can do almost most rx. drugs but had a terrible time with this one. Very bad reation, the dr has a note in my chart to not rx, this one anymore,

For all of you who said you took this and found out you were allergic to Sulfa--do you know that this is not a sulfa medication???

I am allergic to sulfa, it is clearly marked in my charts, doc gave this to me anyway. It is in the "cephalosporin" family, not the sulfa family. Usually, though, if you are allergic to the penicillans you will probably be allergic to this one.

Oh boy, I understand. Had a nasty reaction to Biaxin.

Keflex is not a sulfa med., and although I'm allergic to PCN, I'm able to take Keflex and several other Cephalosporins (Cipro for example) with no problems. I'm also allergic to Tequin, but can take Levaquin with no problems, either. Go figure? :confused3

Ds10 did well on Keflex for an infected bug bite. No side effects at all.

Actually, Cipro is a fluoroquinolone. Only pointing it out because I think you might mean Ceclor and since you have multiple allergies it's always good to know the ones you CAN take.

I've taken Cephlex MANY times and never had a problem. It will kill whatever ails me. I think you need to relax a little.

Actually its about the only thing the dr. can ever give me since I am so allergic to everything else. If you know my background a horrible dr. almost killed me once and then dr. #2 had to operate again, but before he did he had me take massive doses of the stuff for like a month before the next surgery.

You just may be right! I'll have to check the allergy card I have from my Dr.--goodness knows I've got enough stuff listed on there. I'm surprised I'm still alive. :)

Hmmmmm....well, I have taken the second dose and, believe it or not, it looks like I might be getting a slight rash. Not sure yet. I just got out of a hot bath and I looked kind of red and bumpy--not what I normally look like. I guess I will know more tomorrow morning. :sad2:

my husband has taken Keflex numerous times over the years without a reaction.

I've taken it a few times without any problems. The worst part is that the capsules stink really bad...when you open up the bottle, don't take a deep breath!

Good luck, whatever you decide :)
