Have you shared a room with someone from a different time zone?

We have friends from Seattle coming to join us for a trip to Disney. We are on East Coast time, they are on West Coast time. We are sharing a room. I am just trying to work out the logistics of it. :)

I am thinking that maybe the best way to deal with it is to just let my son stay up late (which I am sure he would love) to coincide with more of a normal bedtime for my friend's daughter (around 8:30 PST). Not super late, maybe 10:30 EST as a compromise for both (being 7:30 PST for her), as I am sure the kids will be tired anyway. If they fall asleep earlier, well then lucky us! :)

I have a feeling that I will wake up around 5:30 or so no matter what time we go to bed, since that is when I get up anyway so I know I will end up on "breakfast-run" duty which is fine. Gets me in and out of the shower earlier and out of the way. I am hopeful my son will sleep to a bit later time so as to not have everyone out of bed at what would be 4:00 a.m. to them! I am hopeful...but not confident.

Have you had this situation before? Did you have "a plan" or just go with the flow.

Last September I traveld from Australia and met my friend from Oregon at DW. The one lesson that i have learned from traveling into different time zones is to not make adjustments. Once you are in Orlando you need to go on Orlando time which means go to bed at the time you would normally go to bed on vacation. The first night or first day might be tough but the more strict you are about keeping to normal times the quicker you will acclimate.

I've done this at a number of conventions where I get together with friends from all over the world and I think Willow has it right - everyone adjusts to local time as soon as possible. Adjusting should be relatively easy with the FL sun and only 3 hours difference. However, leave some flexibility in case schedules are just off - that can be as easy as picking a time and a place to meet. You can still spend 90% of the day together and people may benefit from a little alone time anyway. :)

Yes, I figured we would probably just get an earlier start if they were having a hard time getting up.

I just wonder about convincing a 6 y.o. to go to bed at what feels like 5:30 p.m. to her. :) Of course, after a couple of mornings being shaken out of bed at what feels like 4:00 a.m. to her, that might not be such a problem anymore.

Thanks for the help. :)
