Wow. I didn't realize there were so many people that didn't like Stitch. I live in a household with twin 8 year old DSs and let me tell ya, here, Stitch is THE man, um, alien.
I love Stitch. The movies and the tv show were hilarious. Yes, Stitch is not your typical Disney character - he is a troublemaker, and Disney never really has had a troublemaker of his magnitude before. Chip and dale to an extent, but they usually just bugged Donald. Cuzco from Emperor's New Groove was also somewhat unlikable in that regard, but again, not to the same extent.
Stitch is more reminiscent of the Walter Lantz characters.... Woody Woodpecker, Chilly Willy, etc
But at the heart of it, Stitch is about a family coming together and loving each other in spite of their problems and differences.
Stitch is Disney's new "go-to guy" to be sure. I have no problem with him standing alongside Mickey, Donald et al.
Part of our kids' bedtime routine is making up stories...and Stitch is often the star. (My favourite one we've come up with is Stitch goes on Deal or no Deal)
So, while many may think of him as "...an abomination...", we have embraced him as part of our Ohana.
