I saw this movie today and I have to say, I found it in poor taste :( I'm usually not one to over-analyze a movie, but this one really bothered me.

I felt like the writer or director or whoever was basically saying human beings do not know how to show empathy toward others, unless they are lying.

I also thought it was really disrespectful how he mocked religion & people who believe in God or n a higher power. I am personally agnostic, but I have great respect for those who have strong belief in their faith & I just didn't see the point in making an entire population of people look like morons for the sake of a laugh in a movie. After a while I stopped watching it because I just felt that it was in very poor taste.

Anyone else seen this movie and judge it this way?

I couldn’t agree more. I’m a Christian but I can usually tolerate movies or shows that “poke fun” at religion. This movie went way overboard portraying religious people as mindless and stupid. I was really disappointed because I LOVE Ricky Gervais.

I expected the movie to show religion in a bad light. I went into it knowing Ricky's feelings and his strong stance as an atheist. I didn't like it though. Not because of the religion aspect; I just found it to be very slooowwww.

I am a very spiritual person and a Christian and I did NOT get that from the movie at all.

I didn't try to look any deeper into the film than a romantic comedy, which is what it was. I'm a very religious person, but honestly am not easily offended. I just saw it as a work of fiction and nothing more. The whole plotline was so far outside of the realm of possibility that I couldn't take it seriously enough to be offended by it.

I absolutely LOVED this movie. As someone who has her own beliefs about religion, this just knocked it out of the park for me.

The whole rules on the pizza boxes and taking two hours to explain them all was wonderful. Ricky Gervais RULES!

It was a horrible movie. Badly written, badly directed. It was clear that only Gervais cared about the movie, everyone else was just there for the paycheck. :headache:

I thought it was really funny. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I saw it when it came out. I didn't find it offensive, but then again, I didn't find it funny either.
