We saw it this weekend finally and I was blown away!!!!! Such an incredibly moving tragedy... Charlize Theron was incredible, I'm so glad she got that much deserved Oscar for it.

All the extras on the DVD were also incredible to view...

What did you think?

I'm renting it today. I really love Charlize Theron and I've heard such amazing things about her performance in this movie. Can't wait to see it.

I saw it and thought her acting was terrible! The movie was good but for some reason there was something about her acting that I didn't like.

I also can't believe how bad they made her look when she is beautiful.

I liked the movie but found it thoroughly depressing (as it should be). She played the part of a trailer-trash, redneck, low-class woman perfectly. So much that I was just disgusted looking at her and listening to her.

Couldn't agree with you more. I wouldn't recommend it. The F bombs flew constantly. She played a great part, but it didn't mean the movie was good. It wasn't.

I really enjoyed Panic Room!

I agree Charlize was good, but I don't know why they feel they needed to make a movie about an incredibly, low-class prostitute who went around shooting middle-aged men. There was not one redeeming quality about that woman and I don't know why she warranted a movie, honestly.

i haven't seen the movie yet but have read several versions of the story. they made Charlize Theron look like the real girl.. it's spooky.

We rented it about 2 weeks ago and turned it off after about 30-45 minutes. I couldn't bare to watch another minute. That doesn't mean it was bad, it just wasn't for me. Too intense, too much swearing, too much trashy life.

I have it here from Netflix. I am really debating if I should watch it or not. Sounds really depressing.

I lived in FL when "Monster" was happening - in real life.

That's enough for me. We'll not be renting the movie.

I thought Theron was GREAT...the movie on the other hand..didn't care for it much!

Jungle Josh

I would give it like a C. Her acting was ok. I thought Christina Ricci did a better job though. Just a downer movie.

I agree with the OP, Charlize Theron was outstanding. She really did everything possible to "become" Aileen Wuornos. She truly deserved that Oscar.

I enjoyed the movie too. If anything, I think it brought to light the terrible life that Wuornos lived. Not that it excuses her crimes, it doesn't. It just showed that not everyone lives with the white picket fence and 2 cars in the driveway.

Ricci was good, but Theron kicked butt.

I guess I didn't get the point of this movie. Was there one? Usually, there is a transformation in a character or something. She was a prostitute who was raped and then begins killing her customers. Pretty much, end of story.

Charlize did ok, but I wonder if everyone would have made such a big deal over her performance if she wasn't covered in bad makeup and gained 30 pounds.

I think the point is that sometimes life is really hard and it only gets harder. Most movies do end with a transformation, but this one showed that sometimes the transformation never comes and things end up in the worst possible way.

It definitely wasn't meant to be a "feel good" movie.

I'm so surprised that so many didn't like it because it wasn't all warm fuzzies and kittens... it wasn't supposed to be! I hate feel good movies, for the most part, because they're unrealistic. SHE was real life, and people like her are more common then the average American would like to know.

The feelings I had for Lee during the movie were so extreme... what pushes someone to that point. I couldn't just see her as evil, I saw glimpses of what caused her to go over the edge. Very sad...

As someone who works with people of all walks of life on a daily basis, I found the movie important, because there ARE people in the real world who have backgrounds like she did... gave me insight into their struggles.

Wow....we saw the movie last night and I couldn't agree more with your thoughts.

I think people would prefer to bury their heads in the sand...but there are a LOT of people out there just like this lady. The movie shows us how gritty and ugly that world is......definitely NOT a feel good movie, nope......

this lady reminded me of someone I know quite well, and that scared the daylights out of me!

i thought it was an interesting movie. not one of the best i have seen, but it is one i won't forget. i think the real reason some people don't like it is because the two women kiss on each other all the time.. not sure if thats the real reason but it is one i have not heard mentioned on here yet. i heave heard everything else but that. i dont need to see the movie again but i did think that theron did a great job. she seems like she would not be that type of person. she was excellent!

SPOILERS......Don't read if you haven't seen the movie (unless you want to.....)

I felt the same way. At the end of the movie I was shocked at the outcome because I felt that she was a victim of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder because of the first rape. I could see why she snapped and started killing. I felt her punishment was too harsh. Then I found out that the book was totally different and that the movie portrayed her in a MUCH MORE sympathetic light than she really was. Guess I've got to read the book now.
