Have you seen any of this year's Tony nominated plays/musicals?

I've only seen Xanadu. LOVED IT!:cool1: And Cheyenne Jackson!:lovestruc I know it doesn't have a chance of winning but I'm glad the show's a success. Kerry Butler's terrific too, of course. I wanted to see South Pacific too but it was sold out so we saw Hairspray which I love. George Wendt was a good Edna! How about you? Any Broadway babies out there?

I haven't seen any of the shows this year, but we CAN' WAIT for the Tony Awards!

If the Oscars are the gay superbowl, then the Tony's must be, what? The gay all-star game? The gay World Series? The gay final four?

:lmao: :lmao:

And there's a HUGE number of musical perfomances slated for the show tomorrow night. :hyper:

Okay, I'm done geeking out for the moment.

So now that Miss Lupone is up for a Tony, can I ask....

Who was your favorite Mama Rose?

I prefer the orriginal, the Merm! ("Never had a lession in my life" No kidding!!" :rotfl2: )

I was dissapointed by Miss Midlers version.

I did enjoy Tyne Daily when I saw her.

But the Merm is still the #1 Mama Rose for me.

Looking forward to seeing Miss Lupone tonight!

Okay, I might as well just turn in my gay card right now.

I don't own a single recording of Gypsy. (Scott does, so we DO have them in the house.)

The only Mama Rose I know is the incomparable Rozalind Russell from the movie version. I know she's probably not the best, but I love me some Roz. (Mostly in Auntie Mame and The Trouble With Angels).

Scott's got the Midler version on DVD, but I've never seen it.

And here's the saddest revelation of all: Whenever I hear "Everythings Coming Up Roses", all I can EVER see in my head is Rita Moreno as Googy Gomez in The Ritz. :lmao:

I read when Styne & Sondheim were first playing the score for someone (a backer, maybe), they played him "Everything's Coming Up Roses" which remember, back then, was not a common expression, just some Sondheim lyrics. Well, this person who knew the lead character was named Rose, looked puzzled when the song was over. So Styne or Sondheim asked him what was the matter and the person responded, "Everything's Coming Up Rose's WHAT?":lmao:

I have every recording of Gypsy available (not Miss Lupone's yet)...Merman, Russell, Lansbury, Daly & Peters and my favorites (in order) are Ethel's, Angela's & Bette's.

I haven't seen any of them (yet) but I really want to see "In the Heights."

OMG! How fabulous was Patti LuPone tonight?

I LOVE the Tony awards!

I'm still miffed that Cheyenne Jackson didn't even get nominated, though.

Sure, sure, the other guys were good, too. But c'mon! Just look at Cheyenne! Woof!

I concur - love this version.

Not so much - but I've never dug her - something about her bugs me.

That's fair. Not everyone can like the same thing. I just loved it when she screamed at the orchestra that it'd been 29 years! :lmao:

So, let me rephrase the question.

How fabulous was Cheyenne Jackson! Woof!

And I loved the guy from Boeing Boeing's speech. And the confused look on random audience memers. :rotfl2:

Cheyenne is even HOTTER in person! YOWSAH! He's OK magazine's Man Candy this week! Daddy, I want me some of that!:lovestruc

Sorry - I check out after the Young Frankenstein number - And I have to say I was not moved by most of it - maybe the In The Height thing looked interesting - and would not mind seeing Little Mermaid
We Need a great new Sondheim musical again.

Plus he can sing, Plus he can act, Plus he's OUT!

And from everything I read he's a really nice guy and very grounded and down to earth.

I told Scott he's on the list.

(He's also in a LTR, which is a good thing, too! :thumbsup2 )

Did you at least TiVO it so you could go back and check out Cheyenne? You owe it to yourself.

And I couldn't agree more about needing another great new Sondheim show.

We saw a local production of Assassins this weekend. Excellent cast, well directed. But the show itself does little for me.

Would love to see this new production of Sunday in the Park with George too!

I think the last thing I saw that I was just so totally in love with -
smart, funny, thought provoking, entertaining, beautiful, completely non derivative - Into the woods.

Was it me or did that Passing Strange thing - seem alot like Spring Awakening .

I saw the original cast of Into the Woods (minus Bernadette Peters, but with Phylica Rashad) on B'way back in 1988. LOVED it!

I've seen it twice - loved it both times

I saw the same cast as you. Unbelievable!! Saw the touring company of "Sweeney Todd" this season - great, but with the pared down production I felt that I was missing something. Saw "Contact" yesterday, and it was surprisingly good.

I enjoyed Contact when we saw it on tour in Dallas.

This year we've seen Drowsy Chaperone and Avenue Q so far. LOVED Drowsy. Avenue Q was fun, but not sure if we'd go back and see it again.
