We have a Cuisinart immersion at work to make milkshakes for our patients and it is a peice of crap. It is so terrible people rather mix a milkshake up with a plastic spoon than use the handblender.
I have a kinda middle of road immersion by Hamilton Beach. I've been using it for 6 years at least twice a week and it is good. I use it in hot soups, to make whipped cream and to make salad dressings. It has the immersion blender, whisk and chopper attachments. I make cream of mushroom and cream of tomato soup with it and it doesn't take more than a couple of minutes to blend huge pots of soup. It is plastic, but we haven't had a problem with it yet. It is white and never stained once until I purreed carrots with it this fall; but it isnt a big deal, it fades more and more with each wash. I've never dishwashed it, but it takes just seconds to handwash it so it isnt a big deal. I think it was under $40 to purchase and like I said it was over 6 years ago.
