To those of you that have rented points from this site, how did it go? Would you do it again?
Thanks

I rented points from a DIS member and had a good experience. We stayed 4 nights at the Beach Club Villas in a studio and thought it was a great value for the money. However we really missed maid service and double sinks. We've debated renting points again for our next trip but we think we may want to try the dining plan so we probably will book a regular room instead.

We've rented points from a DIS Member twice and had a wonderful experience! We stayed at the Beach Club Villas and in October we are staying at the Boardwalk Villas.
We find renting points to be convenient and cost effective. Good luck :flower:

I have rented points 2x's. Once for the BWV and I have a BCV stay coming up. I love renting points!! It allows me to stay Deluxe at a fraction of the regular rate. I don't miss maid service, but I'm not that thrilled with someone coming in my room everyday anyway. Just remember that it does take trust on both ends. I would only rent from someone that is "established" on the boards and don't pay in full until you have a confirmation# you can verify with Member Services.

Good Luck!!

I was lucky enough to rent point from a DVC member for May05 at VWL. The member had never stayed at VWL but asked for a nice view for our trip. We had a view of the woods and pond in the back. We saw animals in the early am, ie rabbits squirrels... We stayed in a studio for $10 pp. I received wonderful help from the member and the confirmation was mailed out very quickly to me to confirm. I have to admit I was so busy I didnt confirm until about 1 week out. I always confirm about a week ahead to make sure the reservations havent been lost or canceled without my knowledge. It was a great experience. I would do it again. I originally went DVC to see if I needed a studio or 1 bedroom for family trips. If I went again I would spend the $$ and go 1 bedroom. I like the thought of the full kitchen and jacuzzi bath, and laundry in the room. It was DS6, DH and myself. Although the room was large enough with and without the couch folded out, since my 2DD17 usually go with me and my DH stays home ie4 people. I think the larger room would be better for 3 adults.

PS the VWL are very nice and have great access to MK, both by boat. Not quite the monorail but I liked much better than the busses.

I found many people that seemed very nice to rent from on the DVC boards. Most are people who are renting out at almost what they pay for dues per year. I would rent again. I am still on the fence about buying in.

Best of luck and have a great trip!!

We rented points and had a great experience. I would do it again in a heartbeat. We stayed in a 2 bdr at a fraction of what it would have cost us. It totally allows you to experience the deluxe hotels for less. We did miss the maid service too but we still felt it was worth it. Just give yourself ample time to book especially if it is a busy time of year. We tried to rent points this december and everything was booked.

We rented points for 2 stays before we bought into DVC and again rented points for a summer trip when I saw some points at a great price on the rent/trade board. I now realize I should have bought at least 200 points instead of the 150 we purchased. But with college age kids, I can't quite fall victim to the add-on-itis virus right now.

I rented points last minute earlier this year from a Dis member. Found a renter, had her book a room, and paid for it within 3 hours.

Stayed at OKW and bought DVC a few weeks later.

Rented a few times, but watch out you will become members like us. :Pinkbounc

We rented points in 2004 at BWV and LOVED it, we were just back in Aug 2005 and stayed at CSR we really liked it her BUT we missed the BWV area, so what did we do??????????????? WE BOUGHT DVC WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, 100 points at BCV.

Renting points is a GREAT way to go, had we not done it we would not be DVC members

Just wanted to point out that any of you that rented points from someone you thought was really great, and decided to buy into DVC later...give their name to your guide, as they might qualify for a referral bonus. If they live in a state that qualifies, it might be a nice surprise for them!

...We did miss the maid service...
I've read this in several of the replies and just wanted to mention (for anyone on the fence about renting points but wanting daily housekeeping) that you CAN get extra housekeeping visits for an additional charge per visit. The DVC member can quote current rates and put in the request.

You will quickly get used to not having a maid, and next thing you know you are leaving your underwear laying on the floor! I delayed buying into DVC for 5 years because I thought I HAD to have a maid, but once I stayed at a DVC and then went back to a regular hotel room, I could have killed the maid(knock, knock at 8 a.m.). So I went home and bought TWO contracts! By the way, you can pay cash for a villa, and you automatically get maid service. I use points during the week, and cash on the weekends--it saves points, and gives you housekeeping for cleaning the whirlpool tub. ;)

By the way, I rent out points and rent from other members all the time, never had a problem with renters who loan me their points. I think it far more common that a member gets stiffed from a non-member than vice-versa. I think members are VERY honest. I rented OKW points for our grand villa, and WOW!! People here are kind and helpful, and willing to work with you.

We've bought points to add on to our own reservations and have rented them.

When I rented - the owner of the points made the reservation for me. I admit that it can be a gamble - but I"ve not had a problem AT ALL! the transaction was easy and i could tell right off everything would be fine!
