Have you owned a convection range?

It's time for a new stove and I was looking into the convection ovens. Just wondered if anyone who may have had or has one thought it was worth the extra cost. Also does it cook as well as it's supposed to?

One more thing, what brand was it? According to the Consumer Reports buying guide for this year, the GE is supposed to be the best.

Help!!

I have a combination microwave/convection oven. I can't figure out how to use it  I suppose I should dig out that owner's manual again :)

We have one, it's a Frigidaire. We really didn't think we were going to use it, but it has come in handy. It does cook faster and more evenly. Good luck with your decision!

Just MO, but I would stay away from GE. I have been burned (no pun intended :p ) by consumer reports before. Any GE/Hotpoint appliances I have owned have been duds. We once had a washing machine that used a cement block as a counter balance!

YIKES!

Good luck with your decision..... I'll watch for your feedback as I would like to buy one in the future!

We have a double over (Jenn-Air) , and the top oven is a combination standard/convection. We haven't figured out how to use the convection part yet - and it's been 2 years.

Maybe tomorrow I'll be inspired to read the directions!

I had one before & still do... I think??? Ah, why do I need that again?
Seriously in the past I did use a couple of times for quick cooking and I think it is supposed to pull grease away but for some reason I just like to hit bake and cook like I always do.

I have a KitchenAid and love it! I use the conveciton more for even cooking with a full oven than for the time savings. I can use both racks and load 'em up, still getting great results.

The only drawback is the smaller internal oven size. You need to decide if that is a problem for you. I choose to deal with it so that I can be "convected".

I also have a Kitchenaid. (Long story: we lived with my MIL for a year before she passed away, so I had an expert "coach" for using it, and got hooked). The usual rules are cut the temp. and times a bit. It does give wonderful results, particularly in baking.

When we moved home and bought a newer model, we found it has a digital built-in conversion mode (enter normal temps & times and it converts by itself...neat feature, altho I haven't actually used it).

Another plus is the meat probe: set to desired internal temp. and roasts, etc. come out perfect.

Denise < --- ain't no Betty Crocker, so I need all the help I can get ;)

Thanks so much for everyone's feedback!!:D Denise, I'm definitely not Betty Crocker either and keep flipflopping between would I really use the feature or just opt for the 'normal' way of cooking. The even cooking idea really has me, however, because I made lasagna last Sunday - first time in... I'd rather not say . It was really good but was very unevenly cooked. And it's a GE to boot!! It was the builder's basic model when we moved in here ten years ago. Sooooo, maybe I'm back to my original choice of Maytag or if I can find a place that sells one - Frigidare, since you like yours so much, Rita.

Again, thanks so much,
Lois
