I occasionally will browse through a thrift store, mainly looking for furniture. I am always amazed when I see bathing suits on the racks. Female's especially.

It got me curious. Do people actually buy used bathing suits? Now, some are new still with tags and I understand that....but the others? :crazy2:

I would never need to swim that bad.

I have no issue with thrift store items (although we do come home and wash them before wearing). My daughter went thrift store shopping with a friend yesterday. But both of us would draw the line at underwear or swim suits.

Don't people try on NEW bathing suits at the store? So odds are, someone had worn a new bathing suit before your buy it. While I have not purchased a used bathing suit, I don't see a difference. You wash it before you wear it.

Assuming you would wash anything purscased in a thrift store before wearing it, why is everyone so squeamish about this? Just curious. I mean, how do you you know the previous owner of the shorts or jeans you bought didn't go commando?

I have bought swimsuits, name brands, in 'new' condition. (Speedo, Venus, Leblanca, etc....)
Saved a lot!!!!
Hey, they can be cleaned and washed.

And, I don't buy anything at a second hand shop that looks too worn or used, anyhow.
I am picky.

Don't really see a problem....

Doesn't matter if it's rational or not. Just no.

I'm one of the people that think I don't care if it can be washed or not (even washers with a sanitize setting), I won't buy any clothes used. Yes, I know people try on clothes in other stores or may have done the old leave the tags on and return, but that is all different from someone wearing stuff more than once, spilling on it, being sick in/on it or in a house we don't know what is like.

I tend to agree with those who say "if it can be washed, why not?" It's the same as people who refuse to buy a "used" mattress because of some "eww factor." To those people, I always say "ever slept in a hotel?" Do you think they change mattresses between guests?

If the mattress is in good condition with no rips, stains or tears, I cover it with a good quality mattress pad and sleep very comfortably. :-) Same as a hotel.

I had some old McDonald's Disney glasses and broke a couple and turned to Ebay. I hesitated to buy used, but then had to remind myself that I eat out at restaurants all the time and it hasn't killed me yet.

That said, I'm still a firm no on thrift store bathing suits. :)

I am having a garage sale and selling ALL clothing items. Bathing suits, bras, underwear, coats, blankets, towels, shoes etc.

We have a lot of flooding victims here and I do it as a charity, selling things cheap. We will donate what is leftover.

Used clothes are used clothes to me. You just wash them.

I've never seen them for sale but maybe? I don't buy used clothing much but if we were going through hard times and I had a bunch of kids who needed suits, I would. It's really not any different from borrowing a suit from a friend, and if I was that squeamish, I would never go swimming at all. Public pools, everyone? Not clean.

It's actually illegal here for thrift stores to sell used mattresses. Don't know if that's because hygiene or vermin. Vermin would concern me more.

But I've "inherited" mattresses from family members so I'm not that worried. I think there are times where you just can't afford to be choosy.

Most new women's swimsuits have a liner on the crotch you remove when you get home. Plus, I always try them on with undergarments. Might not make much difference, but it makes me feel better.

Still a firm no on thrift store suits.

Reminds me of the wood quilt rack and other items I put at the curb after an Awful cesspool back up in the basement... and it was Bad!!!!
after hosing them off..everything went to the curb, all the furniture, I mean everything out of the house.... yup... they were gone quickly :scared:
I felt bad but wasn't going to go out there and explain....

Thrift....I'd draw the line at undergarments of any kind... bathing suits, gym gear and the like...
I love the repurpose, or reuse but that only goes so far...

You're selling used underwear? Seriously?? :crazy2::crazy2::crazy2:

I bought a bathing suit from a thrift store back in my early 20's. It was fine.

But, no, I wouldn't consider it anymore. Never a used mattress.

I realize it doesn't make much sense.
