Hello everyone! This is my very first post, but I've been lurking here for a long time :). We just returned from a one week trip to the World. We had a great time!!

Here's the reason for my post...I'm a mother of 2 (4 & 6) and I noticed some things that drove this mother nuts. I know they are petty things, but I wanted to poll some of the other posters to see if anyone else has noticed them too. Ok - here it goes...

Why don't they have more restrooms with sinks at kids level ?! This drove me crazy considering we were in a place that caters to kids. Most of the restrooms we visted (we were there for 7 days, so that's a lot of potty breaks) don't have sinks at the kids level. My kids are perfectly capable of going to the restroom on their own, but I had to lift them up to the sink each time! I did notice at the AK lodge, the poolside bathroom had a kids sink :yay:. I know it's silly, but it struck me as odd.

Ok, the next thing I noticed is that there is a lot of "be green" talk in WDW, but I couldn't help but notice all the GIANT confetti that graced boys heads. I know this is the cool spiked "do" they receive from the BBB, but my goodness, that stuff isn't biodegradeable!! And it all goes down the drain when you wash their hair :scared:. No wonder my resort tub didn't drain very well!!

Does anyone else notice these things too, or am I the only one?!

I have always thought the same thing about the sinks. Either put half of them down to the kids levels or provide a step for them. It can really hurt your back picking up kids every time they wash their hands.:headache:

Welcome from out of the lurking shadows!
AMEN to the sink issue! I said the same thing at our last visit - I was PG at the time, and trying to hold up a 35 lb kid to wash her hands was no fun. It's Disney World for pete's sake - there are more than a few little ones running around!
I also thought it would be nice to have some kid-sized potties, but the sink issue is a biggie. It really would not cost them that much to put in those stepstool things that fold up...

LOVE the idea of some of the sink levels being lower. I never thought of that but you are sooooo right!!!!!!
I'm sure little people would appreciate this also!
Good point!!!!!

By the way welcome back and also welcome to coming out of the shadows to post!!!!

I'm happy to be out of the shadows!!:woohoo:

I never thought of the step stools before - duh! That sounds easy enough.

One of our local malls has children's potties and sinks in each of their bathrooms - it's the best thing in the world. The kids think it's soooo cool! I bet the interior designer on that job had kids ;)

We were there during the week before Easter so it was extremely crowded :crowded:. Along with my silly obervation about the kids sinks, I noticed that there are waaaay to many adults out there that could learn a think or two about personal hygiene. I mean come on folks - wash your hands for cryin' out loud! I guess I just have a thing about clean hands. I think I went through 3 bottles of hand sanitizer while we were there. I upped my hand sanitizer usage after a kid got sick on the bus back from Hollywood Studios. :crazy2: Yuck!

I just have to comment - I am one of those who dies not always "wash" in a public restroom. I have huge germ issues and hate touching the taps, the paper towel, etc. I was OK in WDW, but in gas stations, or convenience stores - FORGET IT!! I always have baby wipes and hand sanitizer with me and prefer to step outside the bathroom and clean myself. I know it is crazy, but there are weirdo's like me out there ;)

mom2faith - I see your point, but I still have a hang-up about it. It's rubbing off on my daughter too cause she'll be the first to point and say "Mommy, that lady didn't wash her hands!!" :lmao:

I actually saw a show on germs in pubic restrooms. They tested people hands after using the restrooms. Some had washed and others hadn't. Depending on the rest room some people who washed actually had more germs on their hands than the ones who didn't:scared1: It came from touching the taps, the soap dispenser, the paper towel dispenser and the door. Ever since seeing that show I use baby wipes and hand sanitizer!

I am confused about not washing hands, considering most WDW sinks are automatic-but my DD would say the same thing. LOL

One suggestion that always worked well for us when we ran across the odd restoom without a shorter sink-my DD would stand on my feet to be able to reach the faucet. :thumbsup2

Cute idea

It would be nice to have lower sinks....but the ones they do have I think are actually there for folks in wheelchairs. I do let DD use them though if there isn't anyone needing to use them because it is much easier. As far as not washing. I'm one of those people....honestly by the time I get washed and touch everything to get out of the restroom I'm just as germy as when I started and if I'm lucky DD didn't get soaked because water was on the counter in front of the sinks. So yes - it's easier - and a lot of times cleaner for me to just use sanitizer. However......I do really push handwashing to DD and that we only use sanitizer when the sink area is a mess.

Since you brought it up - the thing that makes me crazy is the women who hover and pee all over the toilet because their bottom cannot possible touch a "public" toilet. And yes Disney toilets mega flush and do sometimes splash water back on the toilet....but there is a definite difference between "pee" and "toilet water".

Hahaha - I started a "potty talk" thread! :rotfl2:

The sprinkle thing is annoying I agree. I have to commend Disney for keeping those seat covers stocked in all the facilities.

I would love more kid sized sinks and potties. That woudl be such a big help.

Just wondering what you use the baby wipes for? I always carry lysol wipes to wipe the seat and I have purell that attaches to my key ring. I use my purell even after i wash my hands.

You need to come visit DisneyLAND. Practically every bathroom has multiple sinks at kid level (or wheelchair level, considering California is so ADA compliant, that could be it). It's fanatastic! I noticed the same thing, though, at WDW when I was there a few weeks ago. ALL the sinks are high...not good.

I also got a bit peeved at all the "Go Green" overload at WDW. I mean, come on! WDW generates MORE trash, electricity, water waste, etc. than proabably ANY company in the U.S. (certainly in Florida), and then they have the gall to ask US to conserve? Please...:sad2: All for show...

About the step stools for kids in the bathrooms... I asked an attendant at the MK baby center about this. She agreed that they would be useful, but told me that Disney would not provide step stools since they are a liability.

I'm one of those who walks out of the restroom without washing her hands. Yes, I sometimes wonder if people are looking at me thinking "gross!" But I also reach for my hand sanitizer as soon as I'm out of the restroom. I hate touching all of the stuff in the bathrooms! I keep my touching to a bare minimum in the restrooms.

I do the same thing. I wash in the restroom and then use my hand sanitizer when i get out.

While as a parent I would have appreciated the lower sinks before my kids were tall enough to reach (it can be very backbreaking to lift them and not get them wet!), Disney is probably pretty wise not to do this. I was at the Children's Museum in Boston not too long ago where there were child size sinks and some kids were in there having a ball washing for A LONG TIME and getting water all over the place; they had created their own water play area! I can only imagine the Disney restrooms on a hot summer afternoon. Sad, but true. Some people just let their kids run wild. :confused3

OK, so, those of you that don't wash and just use gel, do you have that gel out and ready to go, or do you have to dig it out of a bag, stroller basket, etc.? Isn't that just as icky as touching the soap dispenser? You're getting potty germs all over the stuff you're touching to get to the gel.

I think most Disney sinks are automatic, so you're only touching the soap dispenser, and you wash your hands after that. My gramma taught (brainwashed?) me to get paper towels with my elbow. Once you have a little out, you can pull that and use it to get more paper towel. Use that paper towel to open the door. Also, flush with your foot. :lmao: I think most Disney potties are on auto, also, though.

And I do all of that every time I'm in the restroom!! :rotfl:

A few things, I always feel that WDW's bathrooms are great because you have to touch so little. Automatic sink start, no doors, etc. Kid sinks would be awesome.

I also have been irritated about the recycling talk at Disney & then no recycling bins, etc. But then dh pointed out that most amusements parks actually sort through all trash as fiding the valuable stuff (like rings, watches, etc) that people drop accidently into bins pays them to totally sort out all trash. Plus, then, they make lots of money on the actual recycling of stuff. So having recycling receptacles, like they now do at Epcot & AK, is really just for show. They sort through all of it anyway.

This is from this article:
http://www.vacationdaysmagazine.com/blog/labels/Walt Disney World.html
"Cleanliness and trash disposal are big deals at Disney. Legend has it that Walt Disney ate a hot dog in Disneyland and counted how many steps it took to finish it—almost twenty-five steps, which is roughly how far apart trash cans are placed. It's also said that Walt himself reportedly handed out candy at Disneyland and then counted the number of steps before people would drop the wrapper. He reasoned that a handy trash can would help prevent litter.

"We have the standard of being one of the cleanest parks in the world, and we work hard at that," Matthew says. Behind the Pirates of the Caribbean ride is a massive rubbish compactor where rubbish is sucked from around the park by a Swiss-built network of pneumatic tubes. The combustibles are burned to generate about a third of Disney's electricity.

"All the trash is sorted by hand to pull out recyclables and things that people accidentally throw away," he says. "There are about twenty-three tons a day of trash just in the Magic Kingdom."

Keys, wallets, sunglasses, cameras, and retainers for braces are among the most common items tossed by accident. The most unusual? A glass eye. Think it's strange that someone could throw away something like that? Consider that each year nineteen thousand cars are locked at Disney World with their keys in them, and fifteen hundred of them have their engines still running."

But as for the kids with stuff in their hair, I hadn't thought of that. I wonder if Disney is getting letters on it & will switch to biodegradable stuff in their hair.
