I was doing some research and someone told me about this syndrome which causes you to feel like you are rocking and rolling and usually takes place after you have left your cruise but can also happen as a result of flying..

If so, how long did it last?? The information I am reading is that it can last for 3 weeks to years. This happened after my first cruise, but I just sort of laughed it off and it did last approximately 3 weeks.. I am not laughing now and will be calling my GP tomorrow....but it seems there is not much they can do for it.

Anyone??

Well, I have never taken a cruise, nor have I had this happen when I fly... but it *has* happened when we go out on my inlaws boat for a whole day. That night I feel as if I am still going up and down, especially if I lay down.

It is an odd feeling! Thankfully it is gone by the next day.

Ok.. but here is the thing.. I am not nauseous and do not get motion sickness... I have friends who have motion sickness, cannot even sit in the back seat of the car, it is not like that.. it is rocking and rolling as if I am still on the cruise......just plain weird..

I've had this happen to me before, usually whenever I just finished a cruise. It usually only lasts a day. Any more than that and I think I'd be going batty. I find it pretty annoying.

I've had something like this. After sitting in a rowboat all day fishing, in bed that night it feels like the bed is rocking. Hard to get to sleep, even close my eyes but eventually I fall asleep & am fine by the next day.

In the literature you've read it doesn't suggest anything that may help?

Yes, I have heard of it, and I have had similar symptoms.

My doctor recommended Bonine (brand name for meclizine) which is used to prevent motion sickness. It works for dizziness even after the fact.

He also recommended a steroid nasal spray and antihistimines. It all did work for me.

Hope you get some relief.

It happens to me sometimes if I have to fly for a long time (over 5 hours). It usually goes away after at most 3 days. It has something to do with your inner ear (I believe).

I always have this happen after a cruise. I don't have any problem while on the cruise ship - it happens after and can last a couple of weeks for me. I feel the motion/rocking when I am sitting still or when I am in bed. I can be totally still but it actually feels like I am gonna fall off of the bed!

I think it used to be referred to as "getting your land legs back"

That's what I call it. We went on a 7 night cruise this summer, and when we came home, I felt like I had had a few cocktails :tilt: for 3 days or so. DH and I laid in bed the first night home, and laughed about it- we said we thought we'd have to sleep with one foot on the floor!

After our cruise last summer I had it for a little while. I asked DH how I was ever going to be able to sleep w/o the gentle rolling of the waves ever again!

This condition is called mal de debarquement or MdDS. French term for disembarkation sickness. It can last from weeks to months to years. This summer I went on a cruise to the western Mediterranean (wonderful cruise!!!)and have had it for 2 months. I am still rocking and rolling, albeit a little more gently now. Sometimes I actually get seasick. I even have symptoms after an hour ferry ride or a fishing trip. Each time I go on the water the symptoms last longer. My doctor's friend has had it for 3 years. If you look at the literature the cause, treatment, and cure are unknown. I feel fine if I am on a boat or in a car. The symptons are worse if you sit or stand still. Working on a computer all day long is a challenge. Please feel free to PM me. I have been told that my crusing days are over. It was my first cruise and I loved it!

Hope your symptoms disappear soon.
