Have you had the H1N1 vaccine??

I can't get it due to my egg allergy. You would think with all the technological advances made in medicine that they could come up with something better than an egg base on flu shots:confused3

The only side effect is that I wanted bacon for supper.

LOL

About the comment that most of the people were Seniors: same thing at our clinic. Because high-risk includes diabetes, and heart and lung disease or chronic conditions, that includes a lot of Seniors. Since the average death is a healthy 32-yr-old woman and it's effecting kids so much morse than the seasonal flu effects kids, I think all kids 6 months-18yrs should be the first priority along with pregnant womena nd the immunocompromised. Since there is strong belief that those over 60 have some natural immunity to H1N1, I think the kids with absolutely no immunity should some first. Seasonal flu tends to hit Seniors harder and I'd be all for them being first in line for that one, but not this one. (Hope not offending anyone, just my personal belief)

I have a question that a friend asked me: does anyone know when they are expecting the unadjuvanted vaccine for those pregnant? And is it recommended for those in the second tri? A friend of mine is just starting her 2nd trimester and was wondering about this.

NikP..... that is the best way to do it. I can't believe that they wouldn't have everyone make an appt. Today was the only day for over a week here that there is a clinic and it was lined up out the door and around the block. Also the line up was filled with 50 year olds....I mean seriously I have a son with an immune compromised disease and if I want him to have it we have to get in one of these 4 hour lineups filled with people who do not even qualify for the first dose. Uggg.
What are do you live in?

I live in Brant County. So the Brant County Health unit set up a clinic in Brantford, Ontario for all residents in the county. You have to prebook an appointment on their website. Better than waiting hours to get the shot!

I also live in Brant County (Hi neighbour :goodvibes),
I was on the Brant County Health Units website on tuesday and was looking at all the available appointments for the vaccine (there were lots available for the general public). I was waiting to hear back from my parents (who also live in our neighbourhood, but are out of town) whether they wanted me to make an app't for them too. When I finally heard back from them this morning, most of the appt's were already gone. They were booked pretty quickly! I was able to get us all appointments, but not until the end of November....but better late than never! :thumbsup2
We leave on friday for a caribbean cruise and are praying that we don't get sick!!!

We had our vaccines on Wednesday. My only side effect is a sore arm, but my dd who is 14 had sore throat and headache yesterday and my dd who is 9
developed a fever, sore throat and cough last night. I thought maybe that she had the flu but when I spoke to my sister today she said that she had a fever and chills and felt achy last night and her dd who is 6 also has a fever, sore throat and chills yesterday and today, and we all went together for our vaccines so I'm thinking that these are side effects.

If you are currently at the tail end of a wicked cold/flu /whatever, can you still get the shot? or must you be 100% healthy. I didn't want to wait the hours and hours to be turned away.

(i have asthma and so I fall in the first group. Unfortunately my children do not, so they would be waiting with me , just to have to go back when they are able to receive it and wait again GRRRR)

I'm hoping to get the shot on Monday! I'm in Toronto and haven't been able to line up the past few days. I know they're expecting a major vaccine shortage this coming week but I have my fingers crossed that my doctor's office will get some shots. I am under 24 and I have a heart condition... so I am hoping to get vaccinated as soon as possible!

I had my shot on Wed..I got sick with the flu on Oct 17..I was feeling pretty good but still a bit under the weather by 28th..they let me have it.

I have to wait because I am not in the high risk range, but I want to get it before we fly! So I am hoping we can get ours the end of next week.

My 5.5 year old or 8 year old are still waiting...they will be doing it in the schools here in Newfoundland but they don't know when it will be starting...MY hubby and I will be able to get it after the school age children have it...I hate my kids not having it yet! Running low is the reason for no idea when they can have it.

None of us are in the targeted groups there looking for and Im not going to be one of the pathetic its all about me people who think they should have it first. I will wait my turn as everyone should. They are targeting certian people for a reason so we will wait.

We went to the Halton clinic yesterday- was there at 940 and the lineup was disgusting, over 4 hours. We left. My DD is 6 so isn't priority but my DS is 2 and is scheduled for surgery at Mac next week so I really want to have him done. The clinic opens in Burlington today, so that's where I'm headed after work. I just wish more people were honest. I'm not looking to get vaccinated yet, I'll wait my turn but for my son.....

Agreed.

It really shows an "every man for himself" society when people jump ahead like that. We aren't really as civilized as we think we are.

So funny, well not really, but we went to bowmanville on friday and took our son to get his and waited over 3 hours in the rain, start to finish for his vaccine. They insisted my husband and I get ours at the same time, saying they wanted to vaccinate everyone who came even though it's our son who needs it not us. Of course today I am sure they are thinking they shouldn't have done that now that it looks like there will be a shortage.
The best part of it all??? My sons Infectious Disease Specialist from sick kids called today to make sure Matthew was getting the shot and asked for our family to come to his office this week for it!!!! We could've skipped the 3 hours in the rain and gone to his office!!!! ugggg. I guess he just got his hands on vaccine for his patients so he didn't know last week!!
My daughter will have to wait for hers, She has asthma but she will have to wait for the next open clinic as her's isn't as urgent and she is terrified of needles!

I work in healthcare and in the emergency department at that, and no I will not be getting the H1N1 shot. Should I get it done? maybe? but I haven't enough proof of the long term effects of the vaccine to risk my health getting it.

I wanted to get the kids done today, but they will not do them as they are not considered high risk. I thought they maybe as I work in the hospital, and other coworkers had their kids done as they were considered "high risk, because their mom is a nurse" But no such luck. Here is hoping they can get it when we get home, we leave early saturday am. So I will be making sure we all have sanitizer and extra vitamins. I got my shot last week at work
