Have you had luck with David's DVC Waitlist?

We tried to book a trip with David's DVC at 7.5 months out. A 2 BR Savannah View at AKV Kidani. We ended up on their waitlist, as they are waiting for a member with that home resort & points that we can rent from.

I wondered if anyone on here has experience with David's waitlist? Did you end up getting your trip granted?

Thanks!

The first week of December is the highest demand week for DVC. There are already days unavailable. You might luck out at 7 months when any points will do (and other owners start moving around), but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

You're basically battling a war on two fronts. You're trying to book DVC at a time when visiting Disney is very popular with owners due to the low number of points needed and the holiday season gearing up. There are most likely scattered openings for your request but not all nights are available. Drusba has an excellent post about availability and chances of being able to secure a reservation at the 7-month window. https://www.disboards.com/threads/a...r-days-7-11-months-out.3281173/#post-51506136

Your other problem is that the rental company needs an owner with sufficient points available to cover your request. At 7.5 months away, that DVC member needs to own at AKV and all of their available points must be AKV points. At 7 months out (or less), any owner with enough points will suffice.

Of the two, I would say that availability is your bigger obstacle.

We were also put on David's WL for that period back on February. I was too nervous about losing availability, so I found an owner on here. I have heard, however, that the waitlist goes pretty quickly - Im just not patient enough. Like the others said, I'd be concerned about availability at this point. Wishing you luck!!

It's also worth noting that a waitlist at a rental agency isn't a typical queue. In other words, it's not a First In, First Out situation. Based on an owner's points available, Use Year, etc. etc., your request may be passed over for a request that better matches the owner's needs.

You're entirely at the mercy of what owners show to rent via David's, and what kind of request they want to pick up as far as dates and value.

Yep, its a dating service, not a queue. When I rented out my points through David I passed on multiple reservations for various reasons - I was too busy that day to make the reservation, the reservation used too few of the points I had available, I didn't want to bother trying for Standard View at Boardwalk. And I wanted to rent for a fairly specific timeframe - before F&W started, when I could still bank leftover points not needed for the rental and wouldn't have to fuss with a F&W reservation.

If the supply demand situation were reversed - more owners looking to rent out with less demand from people wanting to use someone else's points, owners would likely be less picky. But right now, owners can sort of cherry pick their rental to meet their needs.

Thank you for those replies-very helpful, as I am brand new to renting points.

Luckily, we have a backup plan and we have reservations booked at the WL (hotel) for that week, but I sure was getting excited about a villa at AKL!! Oh well, either one will be amazing & now I have a better grip on how to score AKV for our next trip.

I thought about renting points on here, but I'm just too nervous to do it.

I think this post would be really helpful for potential renters to read. (I don't expect to ever rent out my points or rent someone else's points, but I wanted to comment.)

I was on a waitlist with Dave's earlier this year for a February reservation(2018). It did come through, but it took about a month. Remember that they don't own the points and have to find owners that are selling points. I suggest you put your request always in as early as possible so that they can work on fulfilling your reservation. I was nervous this time because the last time I rented from them I got my reservation within 24 hours. Good luck with yours.

Thank you! I wish there was a David's DVC FAQ on here!

For future knowledge, how early can you book a David's DVC request? Is it 12 months out?

It really won't matter much if you put in at 12 months or 11 months. They can't line up an owner until 11 months, and like we said, it's not really a FIFO situation.

And even if they line up an owner with the right resort, they might not have enough points for your reservation or there are others ahead of you. You might still wait until seven months out and lose out anyway.
