Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

For those who haven't had a shot yet, my spouse and eldest got 10% off coupons on groceries (up to $200) for getting their shots done at Safeway. Not sure if that was a local Safeway decision or a brand wide one, but if you haven't signed up yet, $20 is $20:)...I shopped while they did their 15 minutes, since they got the coupon right after their shot, and then were told to just stay in the store:)...

CVS gives out a 20% entire purchase coupon with each shot there too. I got a total of 4 of them and used them to stock up on some toiletries and OTC meds.

But not as effective as two doses. If they thought that one dose was enough, they would have made it a one dose vaccine, which it isn't. The article you linked to urges people to get both doses.

I just don't get why you would not get all the protection you could just because you don't want the side effects of a second shot, which you might not even get.

The thing is - they thought two doses was needed. Turns out likely one would be plenty, but to be SURE of that they would have to do more tests. The tests they have prove out a two dose routine. They can't tell you one is fine because they don't have data to support that yet, and honestly there is no real incentive for them to bother with it at this point.

It looks like one dose is very effective, and I can completely understand why people are balking at getting the second dose when you hear so many horror stories of feeling terrible afterward. If one dose gets you most of the way there, without side effects, why bother getting the second one and chancing the side effects unless you are high risk?

That is the argument with most younger people. The risk to them from the actual virus appears to be very small (though long term effects are unknown at this point), and the risk of short term side effects from the vaccine seems to be high from what I hear on the news and long term effects of the vaccine are unproven as well. Heck when you had the CDC telling people it was only proven effective for 3 months (because that was all the data they had at that point) then why would young people who are not at much risk get it at all?

Even now the CDC says it is effective for 6 months, and maybe longer but we don't know. For someone who is not at high risk from covid, there just isn't much incentive to be vaccinated IMO.

Maybe if they go through with the vaccine or negative tests are required for certain high risk activities (concerts, sports, etc) then there would be some incentive there. But the GOP is fighting that tooth and nail, so I don't expect it.

FWIW, I got my second shot last week. Based on news stories I was expecting to be sick the next day, and really dreading it, but I went through with it anyway. Happily my side effects were minimal.

This practice is illegal in NY. Pharmacies are not allowed to give out incentives to patients. Lovely, when every other state allows it.

no one around here is offering any incentives, other than specific employers. But I just got my shot, so based upon my impeccable timing with other things in life like stock buys/sales, I 100% guarantee the incentives will be coming fast and furious, now that I can't partake. :rotfl:

Well, you can still get the Krispy Kreme, White Castle, Budweiser, and Sam Adams deals:)...it seems to be labeled a Snacks for Vax campaign now:)...

You make very good points and I think this is the mindset of a lot of the people that are not getting the vaccine. Even older people if they have already had covid and had mild symptoms.

So 44 hours and still have a low grade fever off and on. The very minor body aches were short lived and my arm barely hurts now. All and all nothing compared to what I was bracing myself for.

This thread has me emotional. Like mentioned above, one arm at a time we’re getting there. I now know more people who are vaccinated than those who are not. I’m so grateful for all of you. I was highly motivated with the prospect of seeing my DD but you all helped get me through the nerves and doubts. Thanks everyone for that.

Yes. Free alcohol is a no no in California.

It's allowed within reason.

I've been on the Budweiser brewery tour in Fairfield, California. They charged a nominal $5 fee for adults and were able to provide alcohol on the tour. Some had seconds in the initial tasting room. They finally provided a coupon for a tasting at the end of the tour in their main bar area. But when I went on a free tour as part of their Budweiser Clydesdales visit, they had absolutely no alcohol. But we were there for a while, and at a certain point they were handing out beer samples outside. They were maybe 2 oz each.

Free samples are allowed in California, but no more than 3 per day for a particular person at a single venue. I've had beer samples at brewpubs and was told they had to cut me off at three.

Wasn't like in other states (i.e. Washington) where we went on a free winery tour with generous servings.

I'm betting though the other poster is talking about free beer in exchange for being vaccinated, much like the person notated that pharmacies cannot give out incentives to get vaccines in their state.

In your example the Bud tour wasn't free beer, you were charged $5 for the tour. Beer samples aren't the same as incentives. In this case I've not heard of any company giving out a "sample" of beer here, it's "show us your CDC vaccine card get a free beer" (whatever the size may be) and that I can see skirting on some law issue be it archaic or not.

Yes, true. But you also can't require anything to get the free alcohol or require the purchase of alcohol to get a free item. There are a lot of obscure rules when it comes to alcohol in California.

Now that said many places do it regardless. I've been on the Sierra Nevada & Lagunitas brewery tours (free) and both gave more than generous free samples. SN was like 6 or 8 2-3 oz samples, Lagunitas was 4 - 4oz samples.

Had my second Moderna dose yesterday at noon. Sore/painful arm. This morning felt a little off, achy, foggy and maybe nauseous. Did not feel like eating. Took 2 Tylenol around 2pm. Feel more or less back to myself except for the sore arm. Hopefully that's it and done with any symptoms.

I wish here in Canada it was people not wanting the second shot. So many here just really want one but our supply is so bad.

My daughter is a nursing student , her clinical placement was cancelled over the winter so now they are making up for it spring/ summer time. Instead of one day a week it is 2 , 12 hour shifts. Well the problem here is she has to start next week May 3rd with out even one shot . They gave her a May 18th date for her first one. I pray she doesn’t have a outbreak on the stroke floor.

Our appointments are so far back....we are hoping for 1.9 million doses next week a drop in the bucket when people don’t have the first dose. Than we have to wait almost 4 months for the second.

I think there are people all over the world that don't want the 2nd shot or don't get the 2nd shot, you're probably just not hearing about it quite as much in Canada...right now..because supplies are low there. Most of the discussion around not getting the second shot in the U.S. has largely been cropping up in the last month to two months as supplies have gotten more plentiful as well as information coming out about real life vs clinical trial data on efficacy. Also keep in mind that because Canada is doing the 2nd shot so far out you may not even know what the numbers of people getting (or not getting) the second dose until much later.

I don't say that to be debbie downer just to say I'm not sure how much of it is a nationality issue right now at least.

Just saw the NY Times article: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/25/business/covid-vaccines-second-doses.html
