The Ouija board thread made me think of my deck of tarot cards. I was into those during the college years. It really takes someone who knows the deck and all the meanings well to do the best readings though. It's not as effective/fun when I have to look up the meaning of each card each time, the meaning of what position it's in, and then combine those to formulate the reading. Not sure if people have the same spooky spirit connotation from those that they do with the Ouija board; seems kind of just similar to horoscopes or something to me. I should get those back out sometime.

I used to do it when I was younger, and got pretty good at it. Of course, I have forgotten everything I knew about it, so I would have to learn it all over. I never considered it a spirit thing like the Ouija board though. I agree that it feels more akin to astrology to me.

People typically misunderstand the usefulness of tarot, I think.

They're not fortunetellers. Can't predict who you'll marry or when, etc. What they can do when read by someone intuitive is provide insight into the questioner's mindset at that point.

Every moment of life presents us with choices. The tarot can only suggest what the questioner's options might be at the time the reading is done.

As with the Ouija, they're nothing to play around with but can be helpful as a means to self-awareness.

I think the imagery and symbolism are interesting, which sometimes appears in various myths and movies. Like in Empire Strikes Back, Luke hanging from one leg in the ice cave resembles The Hanged Man card. Lucas was big into myths and The Hero’s Journey, it could have been intentional. From that perspective, Tarot symbology can be fun in storytelling.

I don’t believe in any mystic quality to Tarot, but they seem to be more of a tool of focus and decision than clairvoyance. I don’t believe they have any sinister purpose either.

Done it. Dealt the cards for a friend. We didn’t like the results. FULLY shuffled the deck and asked almost the same question again.
ALL OF THE 10 CARDS WERE THE SAME except one.
The odds of that happening are beyond astronomical.
Between that and other stuff we’re not allowed to mention, I’ve never done it again.
(By same, I mean same card in same position and direction. Same.)

We had a set in the house and decided to get rid of them (due to some weird things happening in the room where they were). I’d read not to throw them out, so we went to a New Age bookstore and asked if anyone wanted them. The clerk was very happy to take them off our hands! I think these things are best left to people who understand and know how to use them. JMO, ymmv.

Yes. I love reading the tarot! I do about 4-5 readings a day. I got my new Disney Villians deck last week and just started using it yesterday.

Once in a blue moon. I have two decks somewhere. It's a bit like a horoscope, interpreting it how it benefits you.
You can see it as selfcare, as you think about the question you want answered, in life or something you struggle with, and based on the cards you sometimes come to new insights.

Same friend that introduced me to the OBoard read me with this too, I got spooked it revealed spot on details of a boyfriend but it weirded me out, the friend and I parted ways soon after.

More I think on it the more I realize that my religious school left all the wrong things out... although our version of "the talk" was in a stairway and simply revealed the names of body parts so maybe I shouldn't be too shocked by the missing important details.
