Have you ever sat down and written a list of the most important things you want to do with your children before they are all grown up??
Hubby and I are doing this now, and I am surprised at all the stuff we are coming up with.
Has anyone else done this..or thought about this..what are your ideas?

Definately:
Touring our Nations Capital
Hawaiian Vacation
Italy and Spain

We've already done Disney, New England, and the Carribean numerous times.

Ours have been goals for a long time:

never miss a concert, play, recital(I have gone to all but one of them(sick with pneumonia & flu) in 13 years...hubby had to miss quite a few but there has been one parent always there)

sit down to dinner at HOME as often as possible

more just us family vacations(used to be vacation was spent visiting extended family....finally decided that wasn't worth the heartburn)...so what happens when I start planning our first WDW vacation??? Everyone invites themselves along!! :rotfl:

Our biggest goal was to help them acheive whatever their hearts desire is to the best of our abilities. I guess we won't know that one until they have grown up!!

I am hoping they remember the Family nights and girls only nights with fondness when they are grown.

Proud mama to two wonderfully too fast growing up girls.
I am also proud of the coolest mom tag I have from my 13 yo's friends!! :smooth:

How cute!
We do this as well..we just started having a Family Game night, a Family Movie night and an Ethnic Themed night.
Anyone else out there have any ideas or thoughts on the topic?

there's a little book out about what you need to do with your kids before they grow up I just can't remember the correct title :rotfl: :confused3 it's a fairly new book. we have a list but i think it would take to long to post! :earseek:

I haven't, but I guess I'm just trying to follow my own parent's example as they had 2 girls and so do I. I want to take them to Europe a couple times, make them LOVE to read, and family meals and game nights. We've started the family dinners (they are 3 & 5) which they love, and playing games. I just want them to remember a safe haven and always know they can run to it. I guess that is my goal. And to give them self-worth without self centeredness. It's hard to pinpoint that down to a "list" of stuff to do.

Before you get to the actual planning stage, remember to bring in your children for their opinions. We've found that sometimes DH and I aren't on the same page as DS and DD and we're glad we checked with them before beginning an event that they didn't view as very important to them. Now that they are teens and will soon be off to college, we've found ourselves very close as a family because of those discussions. We're off to Hawaii next year because that's what we all want to do. :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

I agree with asking them and wanting to be on the same page. But I guess I was thinking for myself, and DH, things that we want to do with her before she is all grown up. Not every single thing of course..but some major things that we don't want to forget to share with her..and not nessacaraly vacations..but just "moments".

Thanks everyone for the thoughts. Have you thought of the name of that book yet? I would love to check that out!
Take care everyone.. :wizard:
