done something for your kid that you swore you'd never do? I swore to myself that I would not keep mine out of school for any reason other than illness or doctor appointments once he got into middle school, but I did today with no regrets.

Last night I took DS14 to DFW airport to meet the Texas Rangers plane when they came home from New York. While I am a fan of the team, he is a FAN, and he really doesn't ask for much, so I agreed to this when he asked (more like begged).

Their plane came in at 12:45 am, after he had been waiting patiently for over three hours (and those of you with Aspie kids know that waiting does not come easy). When he saw his heroes step off the plane, he was thrilled. When some of the players came over to the fence to chat for a minute and sign autographs, he was practically jumping out of his skin. And when he got a high five from Josh Hamilton and a fist bump from Michael Young, his face lit up like Christmas morning. Those things made all the waiting and tiredness (on my part) worth it. That is a memory he will probably carry for a very long time. I know the look on his face will stay with me :goodvibes

The things we do for our kids' happiness is a bit crazy sometimes, isn't it? ;)

I let my daughter skip school to go to a cooking show with me and meet Paula Deen. Paula thought we were sisters, I love her! DD went on to culinary school, she wants to be a pastry chef.

That is so cool! :yay:

I kept my oldest DD out of school once to go to an Extreme Home Makeover site when they were in the area a few years back. It was really cool and I'm so glad I did it!

Probably several things with all three of mine. The biggest though was letting our youngest get a hardship license.

I swore I would never spank my kids, I would just talk things out with them and they would listen and mind, That didn't happen lol

I swore I wouldn't give my daughter a cell phone until she was at least 12. She is 10 now and will be getting one for Christmas. :rotfl2:

She is a lot more mobile this year and I'd like to be able to reach her if I need to.

Isn't it funny how are list of things we will never let our children do actually changes when we have children? :rotfl:

I have let my children do things that I said I wouldn't either! I think that the memories your child will have from this far outweigh the missing of one day of school. Sound like a great time!

That is why I try really hard to "never say never" when it comes to parenting. You never know when you are going to eat those words.

I think you did the right thing. If my kids were struggling in school, I would hesitate taking them out for something other than illness, but they a all great students, so I do take them out for the occasional hockey tournament.

I broke so many of my own pre-kid rules there is not enough room here to list them, so I won't even try!

OP, I think that was a great thing to do! Your DS will most likely always remember this day. Lifelong memories are not always easy to come by, when the opportunity knocks, go for it!

I swore I would NEVER use the tv as a baby-sitter. I just would never do that. Then I got pregnant with #2. :rotfl: Yeah now I understand about this whole morning sickness thing. DS got to watch a lot of veggietales and Winnie the Pooh.
