Have you ever used a metal detecter?

Help.. has any one ever used one of these things to find jewelry? I was standing on my deck tonight playing ball with the dog. I threw the ball and off came my diamond ring. It was pitch black but I went down the steps with a flashlight and no luck. I called my niece to try to round her and some friends to come over tomorrow and start combing the yard for it. She suggested using the metal detecter. I looked in the phone book but there is only one listing for them.

Do you have any rent it centers in your area that rent tools and equipment? They usually have metal detectors for rent. Good luck with your search
