Have you ever used a Collection Agency?

I need to find a reputable collection agency with fairly low rates to recover some of our delinquent accounts. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Actually, I have a different suggestion. We used to use collection agencies but they take 40% of what the person owes you. Now we go through magistrate court and recoup ALL of our money.

I agree with tiggersmom2....do it yourself if you can. I used to be a collections attorney and we represented the collection agencies. They're not fun, even when you're on their side.

If the legal proceedings are complicated (they are in MA), you might want to just find a creditor's rights/collections attorney in your area. Our contingent fee was on a sliding scale (generally 10% depending on the size of the debt). You'll save a lot of time and money if you just skip the agency.

Silly Me, if you still want to go the collection agency route, PM my DH (picantel) and he can point you to some agencies. He knows many agencies and collectors thru his forum.

the X's family used a collection agency for deliquent trash accounts. (literally trash)...they would take a cut- and send monthly checks. It was 18% cut. They got 95% of the big accounts paid, and probably 75% of the smaller ones. They're still at it though, because every month the boys will get a check from the collection company. The new company that bought the company- did not buy it's debt. It was either this- or just "forget" about the money, we're talking 100's of thousands of dollars.
