Have you ever "tried out" for anything?

like cheerleading, a team, a part in a play, etc??

My DS is at try outs for the Varsity Basketball Team right now.

I tried out for a part in a play, The King and I, years ago but that was it.

In high school I tried out for colorguard (flag team w/ the marching band) and all of the high school plays.

Elaine reminded me that I also had to try out for band to figure out which group I'd be in.

For pretty much all the music stuff I did I had to try out to see which group I'd be in. For my marching band I had to audition to be the conductor. For band, I had to audition to see which of the two groups I'd be in (this went for orchestra, jazz & concert bands). I only auditioned for plays in middle school because it was required to. In high school I did the plays but never auditioned because I never wanted to have a big part, I just liked doing them for fun :) Never did try out for any athletics because by the time they made you try out, I was too busy doing music to go for any of those.

Cheerleading and musicals

Years, and years ago  i knew the choreographer for the Chicago Sting dance troupe. She told a group of us to try out for fun. Well, i made it to the 2nd to last cut  I never dreamed of making it past the first cut, the place was jam packed with all these professional dancers it was very itimidating. I was actually quite relieved i didn't make the last cut. It was a fun experience though :p

I tried out to be Power Ranger... LMAO No joke! I also tired out for a part in an Indy movie and got it but then they switched around scheduling and I wasn't in town so they replaced me. I also tried out for choir when I was in 7th grade... I didn't make it... they didn't know what they had... ;) LOL:p

Over 30 community theatre and school productions. :) Got cast in 8 of them.

Choirs, plays, operas, musicals & band. I love performing....:D

I hope your DS makes it, Kitty...:D

Just cheerleading way back when. Long before you actually had to have talent to make the cheerleading squad. :teeth: My gymastics skills were limited to a cartwheel and the splits.

I always joked back then that they needed some tall women to help carry the little ones in a pyramid, and that is how I made the cheerleading squad. :)

I've also entered my artwork in various contests. One a sizeable scholarship, which was probably my best prize.

Basketball and tennis. Happy to say I made it everytime. :)

Good luck to your DS.

In 5th grade I tried out for the part of the Caterpiller in Alice in Wonderland, but I got the part of the March Hare instead. :teeth:

In high school I tried out for our radio station and won the coveted noon spot! :) :) I was the only DJ that got to have my schtick broadcast in the luchroom and the smoking alley! Whoo hoo! :bounce: :p :bounce:

That was all. :)

I hope your son makes the squad, Kitty! :)

Musicals, plays, operas, choirs... 100's of auditions! :) It is super stressful, but sometimes I miss it.

Yup!...a couple of Athletic events (as an "adult")....and..much to my absolute amazement..I won 'em teu! :teeth:

...Kitty...I hope yer DS does "good" ! even if he shouldn't "make it"...the fact that he's had the 'intesinal fortitude' to go for it...makes him a Winner! :):):)

band stuff (clarinet), senior play, Disney character

I tried out for every play and musical in HS. Made every one except for being stage manager twice and quitting Cinderella (I had a lead in the previous play and was cast as a mouse, which offended my dignity ;) ). Plus summer theatre community plays and two other community shows. Biggest roles were Lady Mary in "The Admirable Crichton", Van Helsing in "Dracula" (yes it was originally a guy part) and Sandy in "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie".
Also tried out for the chorale in soph. year and made it. There was no chorale jr. year, but it was "madrigal singers" sr. year and I made that. I have a very low loud alto and they need at least one alto that people can hear!
