Have you ever followed through with a New Year's resolutions for more than a short period of time? If so, what was your resolution and how long did you stick with it?

Actually, at the grand old age of (forty-something) this year I actually did stick to my resolution of losing weight. It only took about 20 years of resolutions to actually do it. :rotfl:

2007. I resolved not to make any more New Year's resolutions. So far, I've been able to stick with that one! :rotfl2:

Last year I lost both parents within 3 months of each other. THEN in July my Dr told me I may have uterine cancer. During my pre-test I found out that I have diabetes and that my A1C was only 1/10th of a percent below very dangerous..... SO you can bet your sweet bippy I went on a diet as of Jan 2nd of this year. By May I had lost 45 pounds, I was 200. While I have gained a little back I am in a much healthier place. I hit a wall in May so I will be picking it back up in Jan. All of the good news is it was only pre-cancer and my A1C is now 5.8 which means I am not doing any harm to my body. As long as I keep it there. SO from this long winded story I certainly had motivation to lose the weight.

Decided not to be a victim every again. I threw the bum out. It has been 16 years!

This year's resolution was to register and train for the Disney World half marathon taking place on Jan.8,2011. I turned 50 this year and wanted to make it special! :donald:

I did this year. My resolution was to run a marathon.
I am running the WDW marathon in just 13 days! And I lost almost 50lbs since starting running this time last year.

i make ones that I can actually do.

My favorite was keeping fresh flowers in the house. They make it seem more homey and it makes me feel good so a few times a month i bring a bunch home. I find that if I change the water daily and pull out the dead and replace with smaller bouquets it doesn't cost as much.

I made one to improve my vocabulary and a few times a week I would learn a new word.

This year I am going to volunteer at least once a month and clean and organize my closet and KEEP it that way.

Yes - I made several last year - and I stuck with them for the entire year.. However, they were personal - so I would rather not share them on the boards..

This year I started my resolutions already..

(1) Get up each morning and put a smile on my face - no matter what..

(2) Choose to live my life in a positive manner - avoid negativity..

(3) Keep the good Lord in my life throughout the entire day (more so than I already do) - and never forget to thank Him for my blessings every night - as well as throughout the day..

(4) Avoid toxic people - everywhere..

(5) Don't waste my time arguing with people here on the DIS.. Answer a question; give my opinion if opinions are being requested; and don't return to the threads that I know are going to end up in the toilet.. It's just not worth it.. Also, I will continue to ignore "baiting" threads and/or remarks.. If people choose to waste their time in that manner, that's strictly up to them.. However, I won't be participating..

(6) Find out what my health issues are (have an appt. next week) - get all of the necessary tests done (even if I would rather not) - and try, try again to gain weight!! Can I hit the 100 lb. mark? That would be a real challenge.. Maybe I should lower my expectations to 95 lbs. to start..

(7) Spend as much time as possible doing the things that I really, really enjoy.. Life is too short to put things off..

Two years ago, to quit smoking. Smoked the last one at around 8 am that morning and having smoked one since.

This year: weight loss. But, no more because of looks or clothes. I am really worried about my health.

I enjoy reading the stories of people actually sticking to their resolutions. I seem to be food for about a month and then it all falls apart. I'm hoping to be inspired by you all.

I always start out doing really good and then the inevitable happens. I keep saying I am going to loose weight. I lose about 20 lbs and bam I get pregnant! :lmao: I think I should have lost the weight BEFORE I met my husband! :rotfl2: Well at least this year I am delivering around New Years, so it might work this year!!!!

My resolutions are always things that I feel will improve my life in meaningful ways but not usually something anyone would consider a miracle if I could pull it off. And I've kept many, many resolutions. I pick stuff I've already wanted to implement, just been too lazy to do, like reading for a few minutes every day.
This year I'm going to be a bit more ambitious in my goals so we'll see. It's all stuff I currently do but on a hit and miss basis. Now I want to add consistency. I am hoping to end 2011 healthier physically, spiritually, and mentally.

My resolution this year was to become healthier. I started really paying attention to what I was eating/drinking and have even managed to lose about 25lbs since last January. Slow but it is staying off.

This year I plan to continue the same as I have been. I do plan on adding in more exercise and cutting down on eating out to once a month.

I think that's the best excuse! Congratulations!
