A couple of years back while I was waiting on my kids and brother to get off of Soarin I was sitting in the land food court area. My kids had just finished their desserts my brother had bought them. While my kids and brother were riding Soarin, in came a family of 6 (Mom, Dad, young kids and grandparents). Mom opened the cooler to grab out a package of lunch meat. Grandma grabbed a loaf of bread they'd packed. Dad reached in and pulled out juice boxes for everyone. While I have no problem with eating outside food in the parks, using a food court where you did not purchase any food is appalling. I have personally used the benches in WS by the lake, but never a food court. Has anyone else ever seen this? :confused3

I guess I'm not sure why it would be a big deal. You pay a small fortune to go into the parks, and these are public areas, unlike table service restaurants, which require being seated by a host. I'm not sure what difference it would make where they sit.

At least this family was EATING. If all the people holding tables for people in line would get up and just sit down when they were ready to eat, a lot of table shortage problems would be solved.

I hadn't noticed before, but I would never do that. Besides the fact it's a pain to cart all that stuff around, there are plenty of places to sit outside and have a "picnic". Especially during crowded times, they could be taking up seats that people who have purchased food there need. There is limited seating in that food court.

Oh yes I've seen this on my last trip at the same place as you...including a can opener and mixing bowl :rotfl:

The mom proceded to make tuna salad with all the trimmings for her family of what appeared to be 6.

Gotta tell you the truth it looked better than my sandwich...:rotfl2:

I don't know if I've seen it or not as I doubt it would really be anything I would give any thought too. I personally don't see anything wrong with people buying a park ticket to use the facility using a Disney owned, counter service table to eat at.

It's a little like a food court at the local mall in my opinion...you shop around, stop & rest at a food court table, even bring your own lunch...who cares?

Total non-issue...certainly not anything I would be thinking on two years after the event.

You should have gone over and asked her if you could trade :rotfl:

Since we often bring in our own lunch, I actually asked about this at Guest Relations and Security (when entering the park).

Both groups of CMs said that any public seating area (and those counter service restaurants are considered public seating) is fine for anyone to use for eating food they bought, brought or don't have. (Just to rest).

Nothing I'm going to waste my Disney time worrying about.

plus which its hot outside. I wouldn't begrudge anyone the chance to eat their lunch inside out of the sun.

Now explain how the family made it through security with a steak knife. Sorry, I forgot to add my biggest concern about them using what appeared to be a crowded area to me. The reason I stayed behind was because I had taken ill and had to catch up with them later in the day. I was enjoying my dessert while the guys were on Soarin. I didn't want to jinx anything by not knowing how I'd do on a ride. I really hadn't given any thought to it until somebody mentioned the food court at the land. I then flashed upon this memory. So excuse me, if my mind doesn't work like others. I am blonde after all. :rotfl:

Sounds like a Jeff Foxworthy joke!

Sure have...and it didn't bother me YEARS later that I felt the need to post about it. :confused3

no, i have never seen this. it does not seem like deal, but, i agree, they should not be using somewhere were other people could be sitting.

Yes I have seen it and I have seen people taking the utensils, condiments and napkins for themselves to use for the meals they brought into the park.

Never seen anyone, not a CM or guest, go up to them and make remarks either.

Hey I am guilty of bringing in light snacks and water sometimes....:rolleyes1

Last year at AK we saw a family sitting at a table with a bucket of chicken. We thought it was sorta funny.

I really don't think she is dwelling on it, just starting a conversation. It looks like someone had a good answer when the gave the answer they got from CM's about this subject.
Now I know I should pack my KitchenAid mixer for our next trip so I can whip up some brownies at Rays Cosmic Cafe. I wonder if they will let me use their oven??:rotfl:

Don't have a problem with this per se..as long as there aren't people who actually bought food at the food court looking for a place to sit down.

To be honest I don't really care, now ask me this after being in the Florida heat and trying to find a table and seeing a family making tuna salad then I may be pissed.:rotfl2:

Yeah, I've seen it. It doesn't bother me, either. More power to them, as long as all they take for their meal is a seat.
Now, when they start filling up their plates from the free "salad bars" at places like Pecos Bill's and Cosmic Ray's, I do tend to raise an eyebrow and "tsk" a bit...:lmao:
