Have you ever rented a vacation home?

Just wanting to find out the pros/cons of this. We are hoping to go to Disney for the first time in January. It will be me, my dh, and our 3 kids (9, 4, an 8 month old). We will be driving, so transportation will not be a problem. I thought it might be cheaper than some of the hotels, and much more roomier. What company did you use? Have you ever just drove down without having reservations, and gotten a great deal? Thanks.

You might have better luck if you go look at the Orlando Hotels and Attractions board. There are lots of posts about vacation homes on there.

I am renting home for our Feb. 2003 trip!

We've gone to a timeshare and loved it. The extra space (2 bedroom/ 3 baths) adds so much to our enjoyment. We really need the quiet and relaxation after a day at the parks.

Actually, I have been looking to buy a home in that area, (we are being transferred) and I have found tons of homes that are unbelieveably reasonably priced for rentals. We're talking 4 bedroom with a pool, gorgeous stuff!!

Go to google and type in "shadow bay, florida" and you'll start getting rental sights. I don't think I'd ever stay in the resorts again (if we weren't moving) having known this!

:) Good luck!

I've been searching for two weeks for a home. I have tons and tons of choices. If you can contact the owner instead of a management co, you will save a few dollars. Most of the owners I have contaced are UK residents and all taxes are inlcuded. I have found these to be the best deals.

I believe I have chosen the home we want, 4bd/3ba w/ heated pool. Eight nights w/ taxes for $560, pool heat for the week is only $60.00. House apprx 15 min from parks. This is the BEST deal I have found.

Here are some sites to search:
WWW.VRBO.COM ,www.vacationparadise.com,http://www.greatrentals.com/FL/1770.html, http://vacationhomes.com,
http://www.lindfields-villa.com/condo.htm **** these folks were great with information, I wanted to rent the condo or the house, but someone got them before me! DARN!! ***

I know this was a lot, but hope it helps. Depending on when you are going, a house should be cheaper than a hotel, at least during the peak season.

If you want to email me, I can forward some of the emails I have received. I will tell you VBRO is cool because you can enter what your price range is and they do all the work. They send this on to owners and they send you what is available!!!! poohsdoodle@aol.
