In the crock pot to cook? For that matter have you ever put anything frozen in to cook like a chicken etc. How much extra time do you add when the item is frozen?

I've done this with frozen roast beef...

I just put it on low with some water and onion soup powder and let it cook all day... and I mean from 9am until 5pm. Sooooo tender!!!

I agree. I think it being frozen makes it more moist and tender.:thumbsup2

This is the ONLY way that I cook a pot roast in the crock pot! :thumbsup2 An old friend of mine who is a great cook told me about this several years ago.

I rinse off the frozen roast, add a cup of water to seasoning mix, and start it at bedtime the night before. I put it on low. In the morning I turn the roast over, spoon the gravy over the top, and let it continue cooking on low. When I get home from work (around 4pm) I turn it over again. If one of my sons is home during the day I ask them to turn it, but if not then it still cooks fine.

At dinner time, it is fall-apart tender with a delicious gravy.

I've never cooked any other meat frozen in the crock pot. Any frozen chicken crock pot recipes out there?? :)

Just about everything I put in the crockpot starts out frozen. Everything turns out fine. :) I do the same thing as Clevergirl with the roast. I throw in some veggies too. Instant meal after cooking on low all day. Love it!

My easiest is put a small frozen chicken (yep the whole thing) in the crockpot, season it, and cook it all day. I'll start it on high and cut back to low after a few hours. Baked chicken. Really good, just not golden.

I also throw some frozen chicken in the c.p. and pour BBQ sauce all over it. I use Sweet Baby Ray's. Cook on low all day. Or I'll do the same thing with chicken gravy, pour it over the chicken, let them cook all day.

That's a few.

Yes.

I know fix it and forget it has a frozen chicken recipe.

For a frozen roast, my sister woudl actually start it the night before--before bedtime at about 9 or 10pm. It would be ready the next day at about 5 or 6pm roughly.

FYI--the frozen chicken from Fix It and Forget it..this recipe they have is for 6 boneless skinless frozen chcken breasts...the cooking time is 10-12 hours on low.

HTH!

I so wish I had seen this thread before I put my roast in the fridge to thaw (gonna put in crock pot tomorrow). Otherwise we'd be eating it today.

Me to, its the only way I cook in the crock pot. No matter what I cook it turns out great.

Do you have the website address for fix it and forget it?

I always throw a couple of boneless frozen chicken breasts in the crock pot to start meals. Here's a few:

chicken and stuffing-- frozen chicken breasts, stuffing (cook ahead of time), can of cream of mushroom soup mixed with can of milk

Chicken Chili- a few frozen chicken breasts, 3 cans of chili beans, a chopped onion, a can of drained whole tomatoes chopped up a bit into large chunks, chopped green pepper. Leave on high all day--chicken is so tender you can just shred it up with a fork at the end of the day.

Same thing with- chicken tortilla soup, chicken and rice, etc.

Today's meal-- Thai Curried Chicken-- chicken breasts, green onions, a can of coconut milk, a tsp of curry, 1/2 tsp cayenne, 1/2 tumeric

Recently there was a whole thread on crock pot recipes. I actually printed the whole thread so I can try them all :). Search for it and if you can't find, PM me and I'll see if I can figure out how to post a link to a thread :)

I usually do everything frozen in the crockpot, but to cook all day (at least 8 hours)

Yep - frozen roasts turn out great! I just let them cook starting before I go to work and they're perfect when I get home. A roast is one thing that seems hard to overcook in the slow cooker - seems better the longer it cooks. :) I cook mine with a lot of liquid in it, though - broth and beer so I have lots of gravy. :)

For things like chicken breasts, I really think frozen is a must if you aren't home to monitor, because fresh cooks within 5-6 hours on low. So if you start from frozen and need to turn it on before work to have it ready when you get home, you'll probably end up with a better, less dried-out result.

I have the main cookbook and the lightly one. Both are excellent. I use them all the time. You can buy them pretty cheap on Amazon. Also, there are a few crockpot recipe threads on the Dis that have some great stuff on there.
Here are a couple that I bookmarked:
