Have you ever ordered a DCL Specialty cake?

I just wish they had more options. I find their cakes to be a bit boring. WDW resorts does such an amazing job with the cakes, I wonder why DCL doesn't.

Not sure but I would guess that they have much more limited time and resources to devote strictly to creating speciality cakes. WDW has a huge dept devoted to just bakery items.

We ordered a chocolate cake w/chocolate frosting for DD's 18th birthday on the Wonder for our Alaska Cruise earlier this year. As others have commented, the cake was "good" (not necessarily great), but helped us to celebrate occasion CZH Bday Dinner 6-12-15 (13).JPG

I would probably do it again if we had a special occasion. There were 5 of us, and we had plenty of cake - took it back to the room after we ate some at dinner and we grazed on it for a couple of days.

I wonder if the Mickey one taste better than the one with a message? Anybody had the chance to compare?

I'm also curious about the cakes. We have 5 birthdays and an anniversary to celebrate in our group of 7 (3 families). Do we get 1 cake and celebrate everything in one night? I can't decide!

They look alright - not as impressive as I was thinking for Disney, but hey - a cake is a cake. If it tastes good enough to eat, that's all that matters. Its about the celebration!

Decisions Decisions.....

I think it's hard to decide because... with the exception of the 55$ Mickey Cake. Most 25$+ cake look like a cake I could get at the grocery store for 13$.

I'm not going to eat at a MDR that night (we have Remy)...

Looks like it's the only way I'm gonna have a celebration cake.

Just curious - is there any way to make sure your faxed cake order was received? Or do you just cross your fingers and hope that the :tink:fax fairies were having a good day when you sent yours?

I also wonder that. I have had the Mickey one and I liked it but I have never had the other. My sister's birthday is coming up and she wants a Publix cake. Yes we are original Floridians. So I think she will be having that for breakfast on the day we get on the ship lol. However she didn't like the Mickey cake so I am curious about the other one

We ordered the Mickey head cake for our DD for her 7th Bday. We've ordered cakes at WDW before and the cakes on the ship are NOTHING like the amazing cakes at WDW....so just be prepared for that if you are using a past Disney experience. I thought our cake tasted good, not amazing, it looked amazing, but the fondent like frosting that covered the cake was disgusting. It was thick and kind of gelatinous for lack of a better description....we just peeled that goo off the cake and ate the cake. I know fondent doesn't typically taste good but this was just really gross looking......FWIW

Does anyone know if you could walk your publix cake on to the ship. I love publix cake and frosting. I think it's a floridian thing. I no longer live there and the first stop when ever we vacation down south is a stop to Publix.

You cross your fingers and hope the fairies got the order in.

I made sure to confirm with the head server the first night of the cruise and he assured me that they had the order in and of the day it would happen.

I was thinking about ordering a cake for my son since we will be sailing on his 11th birthday in December. Do you have to fax the order in? I thought I read somewhere that you go to guest services on the ship at least 24 hours before you want the cake to order it???

You do have to fax in. Believe they have to have order 7 days before sailing. So they can have the cake on the ship - or ingredients. If you wait to order on board they won't have what is needed to do the cake.

Kat

We ordered a cake while on the ship to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary. We spoke to our Head Server about it and then went to Guest Services to place the order. It was no issue whatsoever to do it this way. I'll see if I can find a picture to post.

& I just asked my Mom if they were able to order a cake to celebrate my aunt & uncle's 50th anniversary on the last Alaska cruise of the season this year, and she said they were. They ordered it while on the ship.

HTHs!

Wow, it looks good! Can you tell me what is the composition of the cake?

Thanks! Since I've requested the cake be served on the first night (DH's birthday), I will probably need to check once we board. Hopefully guest services will be able to confirm for me.

It was a few years back, but I think the cake was marble w/ chocolate ganache frosting. I may have a copy of the order form that I filled out on the ship floating around somewhere. I'll look in a bit. :)

Alright, I ordered the cake... Chocolate - White chocolate mousse filling - Buttercream icing... Let's hope it's gonna look good! :jumping3: I'll update you when I come back from the cruise on December 4th.

Until then, feel free to add cake pictures if you can.

Hopefully, two weeks from tomorrow, we'll be enjoying DH's carrot cake with white choc mousse filling and buttercream icing. They 're supposed to serve it on the first night which is his birthday. Will be sure to share photos. :cake:

All food has to be sealed. Would most likely be confiscated.
