Have you ever NOT gotten a car off-site?

Hi,
We're doing a split stay between on and offsite for our next trip. I'd love to get away with not getting a car the entire time, but my dh thinks we'll have to. We'll be on-site for the first part of the trip, so we'll definitely take advantage of ME. We'll primarily be at the parks every day during our off-site stay, and I'd like to just take advantage of the buses that Doubletree offers. My only question is how would we get to the airport on our departure day. Does renting a cab cost a fortune? Any other ideas?

mears shuttle will take you anywhere.

but I have NEVER stayed off site without a car.

now onsite yes - but offsite - never!

I've never even *thought about* not getting a car offsite.

No, never. The only reason to stay off-site it to have the freedom (with a car) to do non-wdw stuff, and to eat at different resturants.

Where ever you stay, make sure to speak with someone at the hotel to find out what the shuttle schedule is. Many resorts advertise shuttles, but only have 1 RT per day. Some only have it only a few days per week.

If you don't want a car, and want to save money, you'd be better staying at on of the value resorts.

Even on-site you're almost better off having a car so you're not a "prisoner" of the WDW transportation system. You can get to/from the parks MUCH quicker in almost all cases driving yourself.

We use priceline.com to rent cars...I've never paid over $25/day for a premium / luxury class vehicle.

It's even cheaper if you take the WDW transportion to the resort, and pick up your rental car from the DTD (Downtown Disney) rental car locations rather than at the airport!

For getting around Orlando off-site a car is a must, sure you can catch the bus or taxi but in the heat, especially if you have children a car is a big advantage.
Plus you can travel around much easier and explore different parts of Florida too.

Only once did we not get a car when we stayed off site and even though it was OK for the most part (we did WDW onsite and visited Universal the 3 days offiste), I hated it. I just did not like being locked into the shuttle schedules, which were not bad, but.....I won't do it again.

Cab fare to the airport from the International Drive area (near the convention center) was about $30-35, which was cheaper than Mears as there were 6 of us.

That makes it sound worse than it really was, though...We stayed at WDW for 10 days, and then moved to the Wyndham on 192 - just by the Sand Lake intersection.

Our kids were just little, and it worked fine for us for our last few days in Orlando. We used the I-Ride Trolley, www.iridetrolley.com , and relaxed

We considered using Lynx to go back to the parks, but never did. www.golynx.com

We've rented a car ever since. Just makes life easier for us YMMV

most international drive in I-trolly not Lynx. (really don't want to change buses). I-trolley does not go to WDW.

you can get the trolley to seaworld (or else the number 8 lynx) and then get the 50 lynx to the Ticket Center. If you get the 2 lynx buses just ask for transfers for the next bus, that way you don't have to pay twice. same on the way back.
