This is a wild recipe...I'm not sure what to think about it.

Caramel pie
Take 4 cans of Sweetened Condensed milk and put the unopened cans in a boiling pot of water. Boil for 4 hours. Let cool for approx. 1/2 hour. Open cans, pour in premade graham crust. Refrigerate for about an hour and then serve with cool whip.

I'm told it's also good with ritz crackers as a dip.

Amid

I am having a hard time thinking of something that sweet with graham crust on a Ritz cracker.

Someone posted that recipe here a while ago. I think it may have been Browneyes.

I made the recipe and liked it okay. I loved the caramel, but it was a bit too intense in the pie for my taste. I think next time I'd like to dip stuff, like apple slices and graham crackers, in the caramel. A spoonful of caramel was good, but it was just too much.

Boiling the can is weird, but it does work. Just make sure that you keep it covered with water. I "know" someone on another Internet forum whose DH let all the water boil off. That happened over a year ago, but I think she still finds caramel stuck to stuff in their kitchen. :)

especially cooking it for four hours.......unopened can????? I really am curious about this

I have an electric range...I'd imagine the cost of boiling something for 4 hours would be up there and not worth the bother!

This is actually Beauty's recipe. I tried to do a search but didn't come up with anything. I made this pie once but I don't remember doing it for 4 hours and I only used 2 cans.

Sorry Shannon! I don't know why I thought this was Beauty's. I just might have to make this for tomorrow.

Amid, I believe it is a variation of a South American Caramel recipe called Dulce de Leche. It is also called milk jam. Seems too sweet to me

OMG...I can devour Dulce De Leche, so if it tastes like that I have got to try it :)

We have a modification of that recipe called 4 hour candy...

Boil for 4 hours, but then once it's done boiling, take a small spoon and scoop out little balls (about the size of melon balls) of the caramel. Rull that in crushed nuts (I think walnuts) then dip in melted chocolate.

You gotta go quick when rolling it in the nuts, cause the heat from your fingers will melt the caramel.

Mmmmmmmm goood. Putsy, but mmmmmm gooood!
