We have all of our 2002 and 2003 points in holding right now (long story, dh was out of a job, now has a great job so we can go to disney again!). I'm going kinda crazy waiting for November to come so we can book a 2 br at BCV's in January. Have you ever had to wait like this and do you think I'll be disappointed not getting our "home" resort as this is our first DVC trip? I'm really worried about the marathon and BCV's being booked up for that.

I've never had points in holding. It is a tough call but January is one of the most "open" months (even with the Marathon). Your chances are probably very good to book something at WDW. I wouldn't count 100% on BCV. It may be possible, especially if you are willing to spend some time on the wait list and are flexible about the size room you can use.

I am sure something will be available. If not at BCV, perhaps at OKW.

you could always go for a practice run and call ms and see what is available for jan. for BCV. that may make you feel better or maybe not  its very hard to wait, i had to wait until sept. until i got my 2002 & 2003 points to book Easter at the BCV my home resort , falling under the 7 month window, booking with everyone else , was very nerves, whooo, yahooo, i had no problem , i got what i wanted, i was stressed out for nothing, but what about next year, and the year after that, im stressed already:eek:

WDWStar, I'm not sure why you have to wait to book every year? You can always make your reservations at the 11 month or 7 month window if the points will be available at the time of your trip. "Holding" points are a special case because that's the penalty for cancelling within 30 days or a trip. Otherwise, there should be no restriction on booking.

Thanks everyone. I do have my heart set on BCV's. But every time I talk to my DH about this, he reminds me that no matter where we go it'll be beautiful. There will be availability somewhere, but I really wanted to try SAB for the first time and just to be on the Boardwalk area.

WDWstar, I have done that very thing (calling MS) just about every week trying to see the availability. Its really crazy, one week there practically filled up, the next week there's plenty of rooms. I think I'll just wait now. Its too frustrating to ask them at this point.

It is kind of fun to wonder where we'll be though. Wilderness Lodge would be kind of nice. We've never even seen this resort. I actually wouldn't mind spending a few nights (staying for 10 nights) there then switching over.
Diane , for some reason, OKW is last on my list. Having never seen ANY of these villas before, I guess location is pretty important to me. Either the boardwalk area or WL would be great for the boats and easy access to the parks. Now watch we wind up with OKW and it becomes our favorite place :D .

LOL! It's happened before. ;) Your husband has the right attitude that you really can't go wrong with any of the resorts. I do hope you get to try BCV since that is "home" for you.

have done it several times - anyway - this time I am going to try for May - of course since I have to wait 60 days before I go - I might find something in March or April and I would take it too. but I have enough points for 4 days in May - less in March or April.

Thanks Pam! I sure hope we get BCV's too. But you know, somebody mentioned a while back that OKW is very similar to POR and I just love that place. So we really can't go wrong. After 8 months of this past year of DH being unemployed, this is no where near a problem for us :D . I love having this dilemma!

What is the logic behind the 60 day window for Holding account points?

Why make it even tougher for people to use their points - they already had the pain of having to cancel one reservation - why make it tough for them to book the replacement trip?

I'm hoping there is a good reason for this other than 'punishment' for cancelling within 30 days...

Good Luck Jillpie! Hope your dates come through for you!

i have almost reached the point of an add on, but for right now we use all our points for that year, and if i want to book at the 11 month window i would have to book in june using borrowed points, and if i cancel during that year, those points will remain in that year, and to make a last minute trip(i wouldnt mind, but dd couldnt miss any high school) would be very hard.

yes, i know about holding points, and havent done it and hoping that i wouldnt have to cancel less then 30 days.

its almost oct. & then1 more month, just keep yourself busy planning, making ps, getting your park tickets together, keep reading the dis.

What does it mean to have your "points in holding" ? Is this different from banking?

WDWSTAR

If I read right, you have a September use year, and wait until September to make reservations at your home resort for Eater (March). Is that right?

If so, I think you need to know that you don't have to wait until your use month to make reservations. For example:

Let's say you have a Sept use year (so your 2003 points start in the beginning 9/03 and expire 8/04). If you want to stay at your home resort in March of 2004 using your 2003 points, you can call in April 2003 to make that reservation (the 11 month window). It makes no difference that it is not Sept 03 yet when you make the reservation. It is all about when you stay.

When we first joined, we had the same misimpression - we thought it was like a bank account, and 500 points were deposited on September 1st, and only then could we use them. It took us until 1994 to realize that it does NOT work this way.

Of course, I could be misinterpreting your post, and if so, please ignore my rambling.:D

yes,, points in holding account means you made a ressies and decided to cancel less then 30 days to arrival, your points go in a holding account, where then you can only book 60 days out from your arrival date. if you cancel 31 days before arrival date your points go back in your account and retain its original use year. unless you used borrow points, example you borrowed 2004 points to make ressies for 2003, and you cancel your trip in 2003, then your 2004 points stay in the 2003 use year.:) :)

djnrook hmmm, i was always told that i would have to have points available, now if i want to make my ressies 11 months(may) out and i didnt get my sept points yet, ms said they would have to borrow points, the 2003 points to make the ressies, and lets say oct 2003 i cancel the ressies my borrowed points will retain the 2003 use year, giving me until when to use them, by end of 2003 or 2004?

i had borrowed points before, for this last trip in aug. using 2003 points ms told me if i canceled i would have to still use my points in 2003, because she borrowed and borrowed retain the use year that you borrow them.

Your Sept 2003 points are available to reserve accomodations from Sept 1 2003 to Aug 31 2004. If you wanted to stay the night of Sept 1 2003 at your home resort using 2003 points, you could really call back on October of 2002 - the beginning of the 11 month window.

I know, I am not explaining it clearly. However, rest assured that even if your use year begins in Sept of 2003, you can make reservations to stay at your home resort in April of 2004 (using 2003 points) in May of 2003.

Your borrowing answer is correct - points that you borrow keep the NEW use year. So, if you do borrow from 2004 into 2003, and then cancel the reservation, those points retain the 2003 use year and expire at the end of your 2003 use year (in this example, Aug 31 2004). They can not be banked.
