Have you ever had to leave WDW early?

This has to be the worst Disney vacation I've ever had. We have to go home three days early because the bank that owns a house we put a bid on three months ago, has suddenly decided that the property has to be closed on in less than a week. It's a Short Sale, so we have zero control over the time frame. Our agent assured us that these things take a long time and we'd be fine to go on vacation. Two days after we got here, she called us (while we were in MK) to tell us that the bank wants to close immediately. The good news, we got the house we wanted, the bad news, our Disney vacation has turned into a huge nightmare of stress.

We originally tried to take care of the house inspections long distance (thank goodness for a great real estate agent), but sending the paperwork over night and finding a notary here, plus all of the stress involved of the normal nightmare of home buying, is just too much. We've been so pre-occupied with the situation at home, that the Disney Un-reality bubble has completely burst.

We're staying at AKV in a one-bedroom, concierge level on DP's. I called MS this morning to see if we could get any of our points back, or if the points could be put towards an existing reservation in October. MS told me that they couldn't do anything, but the manager at AKV possibly could. So now, we're waiting for the manager to call us back.

I'm also in the process of trying to find a flight from MCO to San Francisco. Arugh..nightmare.

This so sucks. All these months of planning and anticipation are now totally ruined. I got several surprises for my wife, one of them being a Fireworks cruise on her birthday. We won't be doing that this trip. I'm so stressed, disappointed and angry.
I know in the end, a house is more than a Disney Vacation, but right now..it all just sucks.

Has anyone had any luck in getting points back when you have to go home early?

yes - mother got sick day one - and we lost all the points. then I didn't know to call.

we were in a 1-bedroom VWL - then changing to CR for her birthday. that was alot of points.

No bad experiences--knock on wood. Just wanted to send you some pixie dust your way and to say how sorry I am to hear you had to cut it short. :wizard: Hopefully the AKL manager can help you out. Good luck!

Well, the pixie dust seems to have worked it's magic, but like all pixie dust..it's a little unpredictable.

The good news is we now don't have to leave early. The bad news is that the bank now wants to close on the 17th, or it is selling the loan to another bank. There's no way we can close by the 17th. I don't think we could have even done that if we were home!

So..the loan is going to be sold to another bank and we have to start the bidding process all over again. However, our inspections can continue during this process, so it buys us more time and we can stay at WDW.

Wow..what a roller coaster.

The manager at AKV did call me back and she's checking with MS to find out about transferring points to an existing reservation, if someone has to leave early. I thought it would be good to have that information anyway. Just in case.
I'll post what I find out.

Thanks again

Wow. Is your heart just racing? What a roller coaster ride you are on. I hope you have a great time on the Fireworks cruise, and things go as you wish they will when you get home.

Wow, what a crazy series of events! I am glad that you now get to enjoy the rest of your trip at AKV.

Good luck with the rest of the home purchase!

We had to leave a day early when Hurricane Charlie blew into town!!! Luckily we got the last seats on the flight out (delayed 4 hours). We got our points back and a free flight to boot!!!

What a unflexible Bank you are dealing with! We had to leave early when Hurricane Charley blew into town also. It cut 3 days off of our trip. We were driving and had to leave at 5pm to not get into a deadlock on I-95. We drove all night, the next morning, on the news, it was bumper to bumper. We were on a cash stay at AKL. My parents called and said to get out of there! We were in the Disney frame of Mind. Having fun at he parks and all that. We were not DVC yet. I am so sorry for your stress while you are on this wonderful Trip. I hope you are enjoying it as much as you can. Concierge is so nice. I sure hope you get the house that is meant for you!:goodvibes

Oh man...sorry about all your troubles....we had to leave early on my first visit to WDW...good old denise the menace sent us home early

Seriously, you may be better off without a bank as "user friendly" as the one you have.

I didn't have to leave early, but I did a real estate transaction from the lobby of the GF once - I had the paperwork faxed to me, signed and returned it, and we were done. I didn't have to have anything notarized, though - but I'm sure they could have found a notary somewhere in Orlando and gotten me a taxi to the office.

I wouldn't leave a vacation in Florida early for a real estate transaction. There's no reason you can't do it by overnighting, and it's not that big of a deal to take a couple of hours, find a bank with a notary and a FedEx box, and do what you need to.

Hope your situation worked out well!!!

If a notary is needed, aren't there several at the DVC preview center? When we bought in March a notary came in to witness some papers we were signing. If you are DVC, I bet they wouldn't mind helping you out, or perhaps for a nominal fee.

Hey everyone

Thanks for the responses. We are on our way back home today, the date we had planned on departing!

The home we're buying is a Short Sale, which means that the bank is in control of the time line as the previous owner is no longer making payments on the loan. We are now realizing just what a complete nightmare buying a Short Sale is. Our mortage broker and bank are working with us, the bank that owns the house doesn't care.

We did talk to the concierge at AKV about getting a notary and they coudln't have been more helpful. The manager of Boma is a notery and they also offered to have someone from DVC at SSR come to AKV if we needed a real estate notary.
In addition, they were happy to let us recieve and send 60+ pages of faxes and arrange for over nighting documents as needed. They stated that this was not an uncommon circumstance and they had seen other guests closing on real estate in the past.

However, due to our not being able to get the home inspections done in less than 7 days (that was the closing time the bank gave us!) and with our being all the way across country buying our first home, the bank sold the loan to another bank and we're starting the process all over again. ARUGH! At least we'll have time to get the inspections done.

We did loose about 3 days of our vacation from stressing out about this whole mess and being in near constant phone and email communication with our agent and mortgage broker.

It really was horrible when we thought we'd have to go home early. I literally had just logged onto the airlines website to try and change our flights, when I refreshed my email and there was the message from our agent saying that the loan had been resold. If I hadn't checked my email at that point, we would have gone home for nothing.

One of the things I love about going to Disney is that it is a complete escape from reality. Well, not this trip. This trip, reality came crashing down in a big way. Even though the house buying process didn't go through, we still thought about it the entire trip and have been worrying about the process, the inspections, the rising interest rates and the mortage applications, the entire trip. While it didn't completely ruin our trip to Disney, it certainly was a much different trip than we had expected and looked forward to.
