Have you ever had Disney burn out?

I don't know if 'burn-out' is the right phrase for me. After our trip last month, I wasn't feeling too badly about coming home. And that was a different feeling for me. Of course I knew I was going back in 3 months. But, we decided on that trip the about 5-6 nights was enough for us at this point. We did run into a couple at a party over the week-end. We have known them for a while but not all that well. Found out they are Disney nuts like us. They go every year, have no kids, but do 'other' stuff (gasp!!) in Orlando. So I think we may be taking a page out of their book from now on. Maybe stay at Universal for a Fri and Sat and do some other non-WDW things. But, I still see a shorter yearly trip for us.

I am not burned out when I come home, but instead feel rather down...like Disney withdrawals. The last trip in May 03, we chose not to do parks nonstop and spent time at Boardwalk, different resorts, DTD, etc so it wasn't all the same everyday.

We just got back a week ago, had a wonderful time, great room at the Dolphin with a balcony and a beautiful view, great CM interaction at several attractions, but when we got back, I was completely uninterested in talking "Disney." I felt like I was so burned out on anything Disney! I didn't even want to think about planning another Disney trip and delayed doing a trip report. Maybe because it was just so hot down there, I don't know. Crowds were almost non existent so it wasn't that.

Well, thank goodness that didn't last too long!

Now I am in planning mode again, and DH is laughing at me! I want to go back at the end of January 2005, but he is saying "no way!" Not until January 2006!

We'll just see about that! ::yes::

I always get Disney burn out! I went for a 7-day trip and actually went to the concierge desk after day 5 and told them I was bored! He said, "I've never heard that one before!" After a few days on my vacation, I get tired of stomping parks, the heat, the crowds, not being at home. Then I come home, fail to write my trip report, and go into anti-Disney mode for a few months.

But then I come to my senses and start planning my next trip! I'm glad I go through this though, otherwise I would cry at every check-out! It's been 3 years since my last trip and I'm bouncing off the walls with excitement!!

Yep! I remember having dinner with WMBarry and Dan Murphy in EPCOT about 2 years ago and saying "okay, that's about enough of Disney for us!"

And that was the LAST time we went! I've been back to Orlando about 12 times since, though!

Nope. It seems that each trip is better than the one before. We relax more, take it easy...no more commando touring (well, almost none ;)). We went to Orlando for 15 days this past August, and we tried some new things that we really enjoyed...renting water sprites, the kids rented bikes at BWV, we went horseback riding at Wilderness Campgrounds, visited the petting zoo, experienced a hurricane ( ), as well as Sleuths (not Disney). It was great! Can't wait to go back, but we let our APs expire. :sad1: If we go to Universal for Thanksgiving again this year (it's become our Thanksgiving tradition now), we'll probably do some of those non-park things again. There's just SO MUCH more to Disney than the parks, and we're loving it!

I tend to get PRE-TRIP burnout...obsessive packing and planning. Once we're on that plane, I'm set!

Yup, anytime I go in the colder months I vow to never go back then. I'm the opposite of you Blondie -- January in Florida is not my idea of fun. I like long days and nights, hot weather, hanging by the pool. When we've gone in January (and twice in December) I've come home not feeling like I've had a full vacation what with the shorter hours and the cooler temperatures making swimming impossible. After the last trip in January, I vowed never again -- if its not at least 85 degrees every day, I don't want to be there. That being said, our last trip was this past June for two weeks - we had a blast and I can't wait to go back next April! :)

BTW, love your new pic! The boys are so big now, almost like men! And its a great pic of you too. :)

Blondie, I don't go often enough to get burnout!!
My last trip was February 2001. Our next vacation after that was to Punta Cana, DH wants to go to other places too so I compromise. Found out that I loved it there and can't wait to go back!
But I really am missing WDW bad right now, hoping to get there next month if things go well.

we have been going to disney and universal since 1993.
in 2001 and 2003, i went twice both of those years. last year my trips were 10 weeks apart. each time we stay 12 days/nights.
the second trip last year was too soon. i did not look forward for it.

i took a different son each trip in those two years. i should have taken them together as i did a repeat of most of the second trip 10 weeks later.

going solo this time oct 1 and not as excited as i should be. maybe frances has something to do with it.....................

very excited about universal's hhn event and disney's mnsshp and f & w event though. not as enthused about eating out for two weeks and living out of a suitcase. know what i mean? i prefer short trips of about 4-5 days as i miss my own bed and routine at home.

i wouldn't say i am burned out on disney, just not ready for a long trip again this soon. the down time to prepare is taxing. once i am there and with warm weather, i know i will perk up over it.

DIS burnout but not DIsney...but then we try to go every other year...might be different if we went every year..

yep. that's why we chose to go to paris this year instead. we took two days out of the week and a half we were there and spent them at disneyland paris to get our fix in a way that would be new. :)

Yep. Have it right no in fact. Probably won't be going back for a few years. Hope it will become special for us again but right no it's really not. Time to do a lot of DVC "trades"'.

I used to get disney burnout after family trips where we would go for a week or more. Now I only go for a few days at a time with one other family member or friend. I'm a lot less interested in the rides, and I spend a lot more time at the pool, the resort, or DTD. I hardly plan anymore and Disney vacations are actually relaxing for me now. This past August I probably spent the most time hanging out on my balcony at the BW or on the beach at the dolphin :cloud9:

I don't think we have ever burned out. We went over NYE one year and decided that that was a bad time of year, but we always planned our next trip on our flight home.

Now that we live minutes away, we do it a lot differently. We will go to a park or restuarant to do one or two things.

We avoid the busy times as well as the really HOT times. We have been WANTING to go, but standing in line with a million other people in 98 degree, 98% humidity is not fun.

But, it is now September. The weather will cool and dry, the crowds will thin.

Time to rackup a few more days on our APs and some trips to Mars at Epcot. :)

I think we will head to Epcot tonight, if the afternoon storms hold off.

Ted
