Have you ever had anything stolen

I've never had anything stolen and don't remember losing anything.

But, I travel a lot for work and in general I am very careful about what I bring and leave in my room. I'm a bit paranoid after seeing a news report (20/20, Dateline, or one of those) around the time I first started traveling for work 10+ years ago. They had those hidden cameras showing hotel cleaning crews going through purses and bags left in hotel rooms.

I do not bring any jewelry except what I wear the entire trip. I'll put on simple gold or pearl earrings that match anything before I leave home - and never take them off -- the same goes for a simple necklace, or none at all for a Disney trip. If I'm going for work and have meetings and am dressing in suits, I'll wear a pearl necklace and earrings, again, never taking them off while I'm gone.

I won't leave a camera in my room (and as for Disney on a stroller, I'd be too paranoid to leave anything of value there). I have to bring a laptop for work, and will do as another poster posted above, leave it in the case, and put the case inside of my suitcase, and put the suitcase in the closet (not just left on the luggage rack left open).

Well... In Oct 2004 I lost my cell phone on Space Mountain. I went to Guest relations, and they said they clean the bottom of Space Mountain about once every 3 months. I left my name/address and brand of phone "in case" it was found when they cleaned the bottom of the ride.

About 4-5 months later, I got a call from a Sherrif in Nebraska (a message was left on my new cellphone.. same number) saying the sherrif department had my cell phone!! Apparantely, someone tried to sell about 20 cell phones to a pawn shop in Nebraska. The owner of the pawn shop thought it was kinda odd, so he called the police.

This Sherrif was calling the owners of the cell phones that were brought to the pawn shop, and a majority of those who "lost" the phones lost them in Disney around the same 5 month span!!! Most, on Space Mountain!!

Hmmm... who cleans the bottom of that ride anyways???

I did get the cell phone sent back to me (AFTER I had to send a self addressed stamped envelope to get it back!!). Aside from a few dents encountered during the fall, it looked pretty good considering the trip it took!!!!

Well, since I know they can go down at the end of the day to recover any lost items, I can almost safely say that it was probably the CM you spoke to.
Hey, at least you have an extremely interesting story to tell now!! :)

Some woman tried to pickpocket my ex in the Haunted Mansion line. Luckily he had his wallet in his front pocket, with his hand on it. He turned around and asked her to please back away. She shrugged and said "no habla ingles." So he loudly said, "Please stop touching my *ss" (or something like that) in Spanish. Her eyes got really wide, and she turned and ran away!

We took our 1 year old into the Haunted Mansion with 2 shoes and he came out with only one. Lost and found had it he next morning. I had a moment once at the AKL and left our new video camera by the pool. Security called me before I even realized it, I think they found me through a reciept from the gift shop that was in the bag. My 9 year old also got lost in the long halls of AKL that trip and they returned her too.She was racing her brother to see who could get to the room first. He won.

:rotfl: :rotfl: That's hilarious!

I have never had anything stolen at Disney. The very idea of having something stolen out of my room is so improbable to me... Because the only person who would be able to get in there would be a Disney employee, and I hold Disney employees in the highest regard (that's not to say it couldn't happen, it's just my mindset).

However, in the parks.... totally different story. I don't think the people in the Magic Kingdom are any better than some crowd in the middle of a major city. I definitely would not let anything valuable get out of my sight in the parks.

not at WDW but at DL.
I was doing the VMK quests in the park. I place the cards inside a plastic baggie and stuck them in my back pocket. I guess while we were watching the fireworks, someone picked my pocket. I think they might have been hoping I placed my wallet in the plastic baggie to keep it dry, or even park tickets or other stuff they could use. I think I might have already answered the questions correctly, so they might have gotten a free VMK tour at DL out of it? I wasn't upset, just glad I place my money and tickets were somewhere else in my pants pockets to keep them safe.

As a matter of fact my older sister has had something stolen at WDW. It was at the end of the day coming back from MK on the monorail and my sister had her Pink Razr cell phone with her. When we got back to our room my sister realized she couldn't find her cell anywhere, she assumed it was lost somehwere in the car or something. After searching all night and all morning we traced back to the last time she could remember having her cell and it was on the monorail. We called Disney's lost and found and gave them our address if they found it.a few days later on our drive back home my dad got a call on his cell from my Sister's cell. We assumed it was Disney calling. And the person on the line said they were sending it to our address. My dad was just about to confirm our address and they said they had to go. It was rather odd. A few weeks passed and still no cell... we finally figured out someone must have stolen it and called my Dad's cell from the phonebook in my sister's cell and told us the lie so we wouldn't stop the service. We stopped it...lol

My DD (12 at the time) left her purse (packed with all her babysitting & birthday money) on one of the benches at the bus stop by BB. Of course we didn't realize it until we were almost back to the hotel. The bus driver sent a message over the radio but no luck. When we got to guest services at BB we were shocked to find not only the purse but also all of her $$$$. I only wish we would have known who turned it in so we could send a thank you!!

One of my friends said that they inadvertently left their backpack on one of the buses. The called the front desk at the hotel when they realized it. About 3 hours later there was a knock on their door. Low and behold, it was a CM bringing it back - with everything still in it.

There is hope for us who are forgetful!!!
