in the Hospital ? I did when my appendix burst , I was so out of it, but I remember the nurse wiping me down, then saying to me "would you like to wash your own private area"
Judy! You beat me to it! LOL. Yeah, I've peeked beneath a few sheets in my day.....
I got a sponge bath when I was 17. The next year I was in nurses' training and started giving them myself and I think it made me a better bather for it. Now they use these "premoistened" cloths and they really suck. It's like taking a bath with baby wipes.
Unfortunately yes. I had just had gall bladder surgery and was still out of it. The nurse had me on the toilet to go to the bathroom when she whipped off the gown I was wearing and started to give me a wipe down. I was SO out of it that I just let her do it. After when I came to my senses I was not happy. She could have at least told me what was about to happen. Oh well. You live, you learn.
Well I found out they will even shave your legs if you are in there long enough.
I was hospitalized for 3 1/2 weeks and could not move. After a week or so, I am sure I started to smell. Then week 2 came and the by week 3, they could not even stand the hair on my legs and shaved them for me.
As a student nurse, my nerves were standing on end at the thought of having to actually do this to a patient. All of the students practiced on each other and were graded on it. I did just fine "sponging" my friend, but...the first patient I had to actually do this to in a hospital setting, well...let's just say it didn't go well at all.
Now, many years later, I could give a sponge bath to anyone and not bat an eye. (Might crack a small smile though.)
Oh heck, getting through painful or embarassing tasks is easy. If it's a guy, start talking about sports and if it is a woman, ask about her children/job/cooking or Oprah! If you keep them engaged in a topic and act interested, they don't even notice what you're doing half the time.
I had one after giving birth to my daughter. I was dirty and they didn't want me getting out of bed yet because of some problems I had had. I have to tell you, I was squeamish about it but the nurse was just as nice as could be (probably figured the worst was over after the L&D ) and it felt so good to be clean after being in labor for 2 days.
Unfortunately, yes. After my C-section. I have no clue why they felt the need to do this. Im guessing I must have smelled bad. Anyway, after 2 days of being in that bed and the morphine making me sick I really didn't care what they did. The nurse was very nice and did it as quickly as she could. I have to say though I did sleep better that night.
