Have you ever had a conversation with someone famous?

Ohh, Acklander, that sounds delicious! I don't blame you for keeping it quiet though, I suppose famous people must have a hard time keeping anything personal so for that alone I'd keep the memory locked away.

So I guess from this you can assume I have never had a conversation with a famous person. I've seen famous people but it must be the NY'er in me that steers me away. The times I have been close I have been VERY careful to remain distant, cordial but distant - I would never want to scare anyone. I have never asked for an autograph or photo. I can't even imagine how hard it must be to always be fearful when out in public... to be so vulnerable with a big fat bulls eye on your back. Uggh, just thinking about being in their shoes makes me cringe.

My DDad is in television and I used to teach at a swanky private school so I have had my fair share of conversations with famous people.

The "friendliest" is probably Harold Ramis, I taught his kids and actually tutored his wife in computer skills. This was back in the 90's before everyone and their brother knew what to do. He is super nice and so is she and the boys are great.

I also taught Horace Grant's son and met him a couple of times. We had Pritzkers, Galvins and Reinsdorfs in school, too.

I used to meet tons of singers when my Dad did Soundstage, the worst was Gordon Lightfoot, what an ***. Lots of Pols, but those were more casual "How do you dos". I met Prince Charles when I was at Cambridge, chatted for a bit, nice but a little spacey...lol, there were tons of people there so I am sure he was distracted.

I sat next to Michael Caine at the theatre one night in London seeing "Forbidden Broadway" for DH's b'day) and we chatted for awhile before the curtain went up and after he signed DH's program. Discussed the coincidence of me, my DH, him, and his DW all being Piesces (sp? - the astrological fish). He said it was a miracle that we didn't all kill our spouses! He accidentally brushed up against my leg and I vowed never to wash that area. When he went for drinks at the interval, the lady sitting in front of DH turned and asked if we had had to pay extra for those seats! We actually got them discounted thru the Navy Exchange!

As a child I used to play with Jimmy Osmond, who lived by my cousins house.

In college I attended Master classes taught by Carol Channing, Larry Linville (Frank Burns), and Christopher Knight (Peter Brady).

During the summer of my senior year in college I worked at a repertory theater company and dated a young man named Jamin Bratt. Now, he's all grown up and goes by the name of Benjamin Bratt. Back then, he was really nice and funny. Very sweet guy!

Those are my "claims to fame".

I've been to a couple of Soap meets and had a real conversation with a very drunk "Roxie" who was crabbing about getting fired (then got rehired later on). My friend and I were embarrassed for her and we kept trying to get awya, but she would hold on to one of us.

Best story though is my Dad...

Years ago he and my Uncle were at a race at MIS (Michigan Internation Speedway) with a bunch of people from my Dad's office-it was a client sponsored thing. So they are sitting in the stands talking cars (both my Dad and Uncle have classics and my Uncle is a mechanic) and this older guy in sunglasses and a baseball hat behind them jumps into the conversation. They ended up talking through the whole race, had great conversations about cars, drivers, tracks, etc. Race ends, they say goodbye, older guy shakes both their hands and says he really enjoyed the conversation and thanked them for keeping him company during the race.

Monday rolls around and my Dad goes to work, his secretary comes in and says, boy you sure are the talk of the office. My Dad confused says why? She says you really don't know...no he doesn't. The old guy - Paul Newman!

Just about every day! I work for him as his assistant and I manage his business.

I've also spoken with a few others who have called for various projects.

I am not a "star-struck" kind of person......I treat the "stars" just the same as I treat my friends. We all have a job to do......they just get paid more!

Huh, you aren't gonna give a name? Shucks man, come on, I hate the teasing!:rotfl: Im refering to Acklander too! A hint maybe, huh, huh. Im sure we can ALL keep the secret identity, secret!

When I was little(around 5) I flew to California from Florida to visit my grandmother. This was before all of the laws about children not flying alone went into effect. Well, I was really bored and asked the flight attendant if she could sit me by some kids so I could have a friend to talk to. She left and came back a few minutes later and helped me get my things together.

She took me to the front of the plane and sat me with a girl my age and her little brother. We were playing(with play dough...I specifically remember cause the attendant was very unhappy that it was stuck in the seats) and in walks Hulk Hogan:scared1: I was like, "oh my gosh LOOK!" Turns out it was Hulk, Brooke and the gang. So I flew with them in first class and played all the way to Cali.

Now let me set this up a little...When I was young I lied... A LOT. I was a major story teller. I mean I told stories that were crazy.

So I get off the plane and go running to my G-ma and tell her that I flew with Hulk. She was like, "Yeah okay...come on lets go..." And I looked behind me and yelled, "BYE MR. HULK!" and he waved and yelled, "Be good Cassie!"(I know...O spent my time with Brooke, but I really only have fuzzy memories of her even BEING there.LOL) The look on my grandma's face was priceless!

I grew up about 10 minutes from Clearwater beach where they lived(the huge house that was on their original show is there) and I saw them all the time. Brooke, like me only remebers the fact that I was there, but Hulk always remembers me. He goes into my Aunt's dinner a lot and he always asks about me...still.:lovestruc

I sat next to Ben Stein on a flight once. The man never shuts up. He was very funny and sweet though.

Barack Obama before he was a Senator. He was in a restaurant one afternoon before a speaking engagement in the area. I walked up to wish him good luck in the senate race and we ended up talking for about 10 minutes. If I only had a camera.

Thats cool...this wouldn't be the diner that Brooke and Nick "worked" in on an episode of their show, was it? I liked that show. Do you know if it was true to who they were or didn't you know them that well? Its sad what happened to their family, the divorce and Nick's accident. Thats cool Hulk still remembers you!:yay:

Not me, my DH is the one who always has a brush with greatness. He has met and talked with Randy Travis (my DH was on a tour of the Gibson guitar factory in Bozeman and sidetracked himself into a room that he wasn't supposed to be in. There was Randy and his friends. DH sat himself down like he belonged there. Fortunately, no one else knew that!). He was an extra/stand-in as a British soldier on "The Patriot" and he had lunch with Heath Ledger several times, and was a stand in across from Mel Gibson, so they talked during set ups. He also had a scene as a surgeon sewing up Jason Isaacs (as the evil Wiliiam Tavington). He said that Isaacs was the nicest most polite English gentleman. When the SCAD film festival opens here, he drives people to and from the airport. He has driven Vanessa Redgrave, James Franco, and Illeana Douglas (the manager in the Rock n Roller Coaster preshow) -he actually sat next to her during one of the movies. Vanessa remembered his name and said hi to him at one of the parties. Bill Pullman has a house near our Montana home and he and my DH have met up at the local events of the town.

Yes, my conversation with Paul Newman was at a car race track also! (Mid Ohio in Lexington, OH). He was there with his DW, Joanne Woodward. I gave him a family recipe and he invited me into their motorhome. Joanne was there at the time!;)

No...lol not the same diner.

I think it's a pretty honest portrayal of them. I mean of course they edit it to the liking of the producers, but I'd say it's pretty on the money. But I only really know them from that experience and other small encounters.

I got to talk to Joe Nichols before he was a famous singer ..I went to a bar in my home town and a friend introduced us but he was way more into the karaoke than anything

But we talked about him wanting to make it big for like 5 min. before he back to singing ..I guess he did ;)

I doubt that he would even remember talking to some girl in a bar..

I used to work in radio and met a LOT of them. Most left no impression, the following did:

Earl Woods (yes, Tiger's daddy. He was amazingly nice and friendly)

The Temptations (we sang with them and they invited us out to their concert)

Lionel Richie (nicest guy EVER!)

Elton John (he and his boyfriend are both my height!! I'm 4'11" tall! :scared1: ) They were so cute about it!

Prince: He IS my height! His bandmate was my girlfriend's bf. I couldn't believe we looked eye to eye. At the time he was dating a woman who was a foot taller than he was and so was my bf. Cute!

Sean Hannity: He was my co worker for several years and YES, he is the sweetest guy EVER. Yes, I said it!! :lmao:

and last but not least my former boss, Marlon Jackson. What a sweet GENUINE person. I'm trying to forgive him for bringing Michael up to the station when I was NOT there!!! :sad1:

Yes. I used to be a receptionist at a TV studio and would make small talk with the celebrities while they waited for whatever shows handlers to come get them. I also worked on a bunch of press junkets. And then there was my groupie days with New Kids on the Block and Ricky Martin(Menudo days). And then more recently Barenaked Ladies.

Lionel Richie - one of the smartest musicians I have ever met.

Gene Cernan - Last man to set foot on the moon and with whom I was truly in awe

Scott Hamilton - A true jerk and whiny and pissy because I didn't fawn all over him or care that he was riding with the commoners on the Germ Tube on 16th street in Downtown Denver

Mmmm, I wouldn't have minded driving James Franco around! Luving him in GH right now:laughing:

DH's cousin is an actor....he hasn't been in anything big but he eeks out an ok living in NYC and has been in some movies/tv shows and had some small speaking rolls (he's in It's Complicated with Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin). His long time girlfriend has a pretty big part on one of the soaps (ATWT). It's really weird flipping the show on and seeing her....I don't normally watch it but sometimes if I happen to be home in the afternoon I will flip it on to see what her character is up to. Everyone thinks it so glamorous but to her it is just a regular job. She has a commute, vacations, etc. Her soap just got cancelled, so we are hoping she continues to work.

Paul Newman at Mid Ohio race track

Same here! My friend (a guy) who I was with at the time ran into him in the men's room and they chatted then walked out to where I was and we all chatted some more. I've met numerous race car drivers there as well as Ashley Judd when she was there with her husband. I chatted with Jeff Goldblum in NYC after a show, boy he is tall! I was talking to my husband on my cell phone when Jeff walked up, so I just hung up on DH, he was cool with it though, lol. Also David Hyde Pierce and Hank Azaria after seeing Spamalot, it was really cold that night and my friend and I were the only ones hanging around the stage door so they let us in and we all hung out for a while.

The longest time I've spent with "celebrities" was the entire day I spent with the Duggars riding around on their bus with them! :rotfl:
