Kermit said:People didn't get sick from raw eggs until recently. That's because until about 1985, salmonella was only on the egg shells and not inside the eggs. It's still not in very many eggs, and most healthy adults won't get dangerously sick if they do eat a little raw egg that is contaminated. It is possible, though. (I think the stat for eggs with salmonella inside the egg shell is something like 1 in 20,000.) .
I always wondered why I wasn't dead by the age of 16. My mother used to make us homemade egg nog with raw eggs weekly.
My dsis and I were discussing this the other day and couldn't understand why we never got deathly ill from drinking it. There is no way I would ever make one and drink it now but we loved them years ago as kids.
A couple of raw eggs, add some milk, sugar and vanilla...what a healthy snack.
