If so, for what and did it help?

I just went for the 1st time this morning for my spinal stenosis (in my neck) and the PT said I would be riding the rides again at WDW no problem if I do what I'm suppose to do in the next 4 weeks. I'm a bit skeptical even tho I loved that news!!!

I've been several time for joint probs in my left leg - ankle, knee and hip. I've got a cronic prob but after each set of sessions my comfort and mobility is MUCH improved.

Yep, pulled a muscle in October. My lower spine is fused and this "injury" was to the other side.

Instead of having to go for three weeks, I was "healed" in one!

I think sucess depends on many factors. Good luck!

Yes I am still in Pt for my torn ACL

I went from not being able to stand, to being able to work and go and do most anything I want to.

It is hard work and you have to do it.but if you do you will be better.

good luck

Hi, there are several of us on the CB who practice in the Physical Therapy field. I am/was a Physical Therapist Assistant.

After I had a severe injuries due to an auto accident I also attended PT for rehab purposes. So I have been on both sides of the fence.

My Best advice.. listen to your therapist, try to do the ex. as instructed, tell the PT about your pain, if the pain increases or decreases with the current treatment plan inform the therapist so that adjustments can be made to the treatment. Patient compliance is very.. very important.

btw... spinal stenosis.. it is my experience that the PT can treat the pain symptoms due to the stenosis.. but the stenosis itself will remain unchanged.

Best wishes for success!

I've gone for knee problems. If you have a good therapist and do the exercises they give you it will work. Before PT I couldn't walk for extended periods without a knee brace. I haven't worn a brace since I finished therapy last summer. Good luck!

I've been in PT at 2 differant locations for the same problem...headaches!. The first time was at the local hospital and it really didn't help. They just did ice and heat therapy and then had me lift weights. But the second time I went to a private therapist and went twice a week for 6 months and boy did she work magic. She would work on my neck and shoulder blade area. She would some how manage to do trigger release under my shoulder blade. Sounds terrible but boy did it feel great! Good luck and I am sure you will get great results.

I've went several different times for my neck and to be honest, even after doing all the exercises and being 100% compliant, I did not get any better. My DH also was seeing a PT for his herniated disks in his back. They almost killed him. When he first went he was in moderate pain, but after every session he was in twice as much pain. His orthopedic surgeon stressed NO TWISTING or BENDING motions. What did the PT have him do right away? You got it. Twisting and bending - lots of it.

After a couple months of feeling worse and worse, he finally stopped. He got much better on his own.

About the only thing that PT ever did for me was make me poor.:(

I did PT on my broken ankle, and my sister is training to be a physical therapist. On my ankle, it helped me gain back a lot of the mobility, though I'm still not perfect. I looked forward to the shock therapy at the end. :teeth: I did "real" PT over the summer, then when I got back to college, I worked with the sports therapist. And my therapy was from 7-8 am. And the college wrestlers had to be weighed in once a week, in just their boxers. Between 7 and 8 am. I loved PT. :teeth:

I went for quite a while for my frozen shoulder problem and it definitely helped me. Just be sure to cooperate fully with the therapist even if there are times where you want to push her or him away and also do the exercises assigned to you (if any). I was bad about the exercising because I got so tired of the pain but they do help.

Good luck! It can be a grueling process.

I've done PT on my neck, knee, hand, and feet as well as back. Do the excersises regularily, and continue to do them all the time. It really DOES help!

My 6 yo DD was in PT all last summer for muscle weakness and PT helped her so much. It was actually fun for her to go and she is now up to her age level. It also helped us to help her at home.

I had to go to a PT several times a week for 6 months for a bad neck/shoulder injury. The heat/cold therapies and the massages felt great, the exercises hurt terribly, but they absolutely made a difference in my recovery. I keep them up to this day to prevent re-injury.

I had a severe sprained ankle last November.
I went to PT for 5 weeks, 2x a week.
It helped greatly in strenghtening my ankle. As did the exercises done at home.
The best part was the massage!!!! I could have had them rub my foot and ankle all day and night it was so relaxing!!! :teeth: :teeth:

No but I would love to go to school to be one! Hope you are doing better soon!

I jog on a daily basis and about 1 1/2 years ago I developed tendonitis right around my ankle. My doctor sent me to PT 2x a week for 8 weeks(6 weeks pt, 2 weeks strengthening). He also made me stop running for 6 weeks, and put me on Naproxen. By doing all that it was totally cured and Ive been running ever since. Occasionally I get a little twinge of it which worries me more than hurts, but I start the Naproxen, do extra stretches and ice it and it usually goes away.

Just recently I had neck pain and the same doctor suggested I could go to PT for it if I wanted to. While the idea of ultrasounds and massages on it sounded great, I didnt think it was bad enough to have to work that into my schedule...but if it starts up again, Im there.

I have to say I did enjoy going. It was very relaxing. Not to mention my therapist started planning her WDW honeymoon while I was going so we had some fun talking about that. ;)

Good luck & I hope you are back on those rides in no time. ;)

I had PT after arthroscopic surgery on my knee. I just LOVED the E-stim!!! ;) :teeth: Wanted to take that home with me. LOL!

We are a PT family, that's for sure.

When I slipped a disk in my back, I went for PT for several months. When I finally "graduated" my back felt better than it ever has. Sometimes I think I'm due to go back for a while.

DH is going now for a broken finger he got back in January sledding. They repaired the finger with a pin and he's been in therapy ever since. I'm skeptical as to what the final outcome will be.

DS3 went from age 7 months until 2 for torticollis. This was the worst we ever experienced. DS hated the pulling and exercises. He would fight and fight during the session -- so much so that all of us would be soaking wet with sweat by the time we were done. We all hated it. In the end, he got tubes put in his ears and shortly afterwards the torticollis subsided. The doctors would never give a medical diagnosis that the two were related but I believe they were. I'm glad that's over with.

I am going right now for my neck. Granted, I think it would be cheaper and been faster to have a muscle relaxer, I am feeling a little relief after 2 visits. Well, Sat was great, Sunday, I could tell it was getting yucky again. Today a little tighter and I have to wait until Wednesday!

I go Wed, Thur and Fri of this week for ultrasound and then I am not sure what happens

I went for about 5 months when I separated my hip from my tailbone. I had a great PT, and along with encouragement from her and advice from Mamajoan, I was able to go from extreme pain to almost pain-free (Thanks Mamajoan:D ) My best advice is to make sure you do your exercises- my PT gave me a whole routine that I can do at home with an exercise ball. Good luck to you!
