Have You Ever Forgotten a Bag at the Grocery Store?

I do think my grandmother went back to the store to apologize, but it's Publix and they're always on the up and up with customer service.

Like if you ever pay a price different than what's advertised, they'll give you a full refund. Exchanges and returns are not a problem. So I don't know if she tried to pay it back or not.

I've never forgotten a bag at a grocery store because I bag my own groceries or use self checkouts.

I did however once leave a bag at a store where the cashiers had to bag the items, due to deactivating security sensors (the bags were in a little box thing and when the bag was full they would deactivate the entire thing).

I had purchased a lot of items for Halloween one year like candy, decorations, etc. I noticed when I got home that some of my items were missing so I called the store and told them what register I was at. The first person I spoke with said, "I don't see a bag with those items, but we'll look for it" I explained that there was really nowhere to look, because I paid for my stuff and left. It's not like I walked through the store after and left it somewhere.

The employee pretty much told me I was out of luck. The cashier probably gave my bag to the next person on line. I asked to talk to the manager, who was not going to give me my items. He said he couldn't just give me a bag full of items for free :confused3 I ended up having to get the district manager's number who apologized over and over about the way I was treated. He also told me if there were any problems when I went back to get the items, to call him from the store and he would handle it.

At our grocery store you get a hand scanner and scan your item and bag it right in your cart as you are shopping so my items never get taken out of the cart until they go to my car so no forgetting bags anyplace! I love it because it tels me exactly how much each item is I am scanning and the total on the order so I know how much I am up to- its great when I only want to spend a certain amount of money, I know exactly how much is in my cart at any given time!

My problem is I'll talk to the cashier, and forget to hand them my savings card, and miss out on sales. Usually it's only $1 or $2, so I won't even bother taking my reciept in the next day to get it fixed.

Funny you should post this! I got home this week with an EXTRA bag, it had all the ingredients for a fantastic stir fry (a stir fry sauce, noodles, chicken, veggies etc). It must have been from the person in front of or behind me in line. The bagger must have mixed them up when loading my cart. The items were not on my reciept. I called the supermarket & told them I was coming back, and they took a list of all the items & told me to keep it. They said if the person comes in or calls they will replace all the items.

That was very nice of you to call.

Leaving bags at the store happens all the time. Usually the cashier will alert someone on the front-end. The items are written down and kept in a log with time, cashier and merchandise.

The question is...did you go back for them?:lmao:
I did, and the police were already there. Luckily it was a long time ago, and no big deal was made of it..except it's still talked about over 30 years later.

I also have done this more than I care to count. It usually happens a Walmart where they have that carousel bagging, where you don't always see the bags because they are rushing you. Walmart has been good about replacing items that were left behind, but it is a pain to travel back to the store.

This is what happens to me. Fortunately I only live a mile a way and can go back for quick retrieval.

I forgot a kid at the grocery store once.
Me too, on Mother's Day no less!! :lmao: I dropped her off in the play area and after I paid, I just walked out and started driving home when I remembered! Oops! She never knew though.
