Just wondering......our on board charges were 2300.00 on our last sailing Nov. 20, 04 Western. Of that was 1 shore excursion and CC snorkle, bike and floats. 15% gratuity is on everything, and I usually tipped more.....especially to our servers at dinner with our bar bill.....Whatever it was it was definately worth it.....

Ouch. Our tips were all in cash, $225 for 4 on a 7 day Eastern. Charges for 4 were $1100, $700 of which were shore excursions. You must have had a monster tab at the bar and shops.

For a 7-night DCL cruise, the suggested gratuities for a family of 4 work out a total of $305 (for the four main tipped positions). Then there are Palo tips, spa tips, shore excursion tips, automatic 15% tips on paid beverages, and extra tips for excellent service.

Nope, never figured out the total, but I know it was multiples of the suggested amount for the 4 main positions. Have always tipped heavy to these CMs. It pays dividends right away in terms of extra service and memories. It all starts with that 1st Bahama Mama...

Call me 'anal' or a 'micro-manager of finance' but I always itemize our vacation spending. I keep track of every penny...I like to compare and see where we could do better next time. The gratuities we've given have always been worth every penny. In fact, we've had such wonderful stateroom host/hostesses on the past three cruises that we end up tipping them MORE than our dining servers! And I don't think we've ever tipped the recommended amount -- always over. Plus, we've always tipped our bartenders a bit extra here and there because we tend to go to the same ones during a cruise. You get to know them and they get to know you and what you like. I like paying extra for this type of customer satisfaction.

BTW -- They don't call him 'Miller Lite Lampskies' for nothing! :earboy2: He's a legend onboard! ;)

We did have a great time!!!! I just figured for every 100.00, approx. 87.00 of that was charges......Plus I ALWAYS tipped the servers at dinner and any CM that took a drink to me on board.....Believe me I'm not complaining.....it was worth it......I just started adding......hehehehehe Yes, on our 03 sailing they ran out of Miller lite on tap at 2 of the 3 bars that served it...........

Melody you sound a lot like me.....I even carry my calculator onboard with me, LOL!!! We do tip very well for excellent service, which we have always gotten. We know these CM's work very hard for their tips, and we like to reward them accordingly.

Oh man we did not tip for our excursion which was the aquarium tour at atlantis. There were so many groups and our guide told us to basically walk fast to keep up with him. We actually lost him 3/4s of the way through the tour. Now even though the service was poor IMO (not a Disney CM) I would not have known to tip him.

I tip between 5% for bad service, and as high as 35% for exceptional service. It all depends on service. I couldn't care less what the person expects. Once, when I had dinner vouchers to the House of Blues for my wife and I, I left a $50 tip becuase the service was exceptional, and since the 2 meals were free.......

Yipppeee! I found someone who outspent my family on the Thanksgiving cruise! I guess it HAD to be the Lampy family! LOL

Yes, we DID have fun!

Willie

Thanks Willie......no wonder DCL has taked those "extra steps" to take care of us!! LOL It was well spent. You can't put a price on a family vacation like our Thukey day Western 04. I tipped our servers and room steward well......every day. Then well at the end. I almost thought like I didn't tip enough. Then, I started adding up the 60.00 bottles of wine at dinner and the 4 to 6 beers and extra tips with that 15% automatic......I guess they made out!!! And yes Willie, I beat last years tab by 200 bucks......have any idea why?

Lampy, you spent more this year because you were having mo' fun! And we stayed up pretty late each night! AND.....the ship did not run out of ML this year. Of course you helped by smuggling a case onboard!

Melody, you can be any ole way you want to be. Micromanger, etc. Nobody here wants to tangle with pregnant lady!

Wmiller, do you believe I left 3 cans in my fridge in the stateroom? I was so busy "helping" you finish off your cooler Friday night, I forgot mine.......that's right......I smuggled 36 onboard!!! add 4 bucks a piece that would have been even more!!!
