Have you ever boycotted a product due to a moral issue?

Just reading about the potential American Girl doll boycott makes me curious. Have you ever boycotted a product or company because of some moral issue? Proctor and Gamble? Disney? I never had personally, but I know a few people who are quite adament about that type of thing.

For a while I refused to buy tuna until they modified their practices to avoid or diminish killing dolphins.

While I don't boycott them, I try to find everything I'm looking for in another store and only buy at Walmart when I can't find it elsewhere. I certainly won't hurt myself to do an all out boycott, that would be silly. It's been a long time however since I've purchased anything there.

I tried for a while...but at one point I was supposed to be boycotting WalMart, Target, and KMart all for different reasons, and that's when I decided that I just wasn't going to worry about it any more. I think it's pretty rare that a company changes its policies due to a boycott.

It can get to the point of ridiculousness pretty quickly: "You can't buy from Company A because it is owned by the same Company C which also owns Company B, and Company B does thus and so which is evil...and if Company C won't stop Company B from doing that evil thing, we should boycott ALL companies that Company C owns..."

This whole issue with American Girl is ridiculous. Both of my girls have them and I plan on buying their dolls an outfit for X-mas. If that makes me immoral, sobeit.

Yes, I've boycotted a company before, but for opposite of reasons you might expect. Seeing as I have no morals I boycotted a company that gave huge amounts of money to a charitable organization that sought to withhold certain rights to women.

I read the article and I don't see why girls need a wristband to be encouraged to be strong and smart and whatever.

If there is a boycott, it'll be really frickin small.

BTW: I won't be purchasing anymore American Girl dolls because my daughter is getting ready to turn 14, but we have several of them here now and they're packed away so she can give them to her daughter someday. We have tons of cute little outfits and such for them too.

They run about $100 each. I'm not trying to talk you out of one for moral reasons, rather $100 for a doll for an 11 year old might be a bit much, UNLESS, your daughter loves dolls. By 11, my daughter had no interest in them anymore.

I don't "boycott" any companies, per se, but I do have companies that I have some big problems with, and I like to buy from other companies if at all possible. It's not that I think these companies are going to change because I'm not supporting them but rather that I'd rather give my money to companies that don't do the things these companies do. It's only two companies, but they're big ones. One is Wal-Mart, and the other I'd rather not say.

I try to be morally responsible with my shopping as much as I can without driving myself crazy. For example, if I want a Christian book, I buy it from a Christian bookstore rather than Barnes & Noble or Amazon because I want the Christian bookstores to stay in business. When I want organic food, I buy it from the health food store rather than my regular grocery store because I'd hate to see my favorite health food store go out of business.

As I discussed on here before,I boycott andything by Foo Fighter as they are and support AIDS denialists..Aids denialsts are groups that deny AIDS exists or that HIV causes AIDS. Generally they blame the victims,accusing them of drug taking, and plenty of other nasty things.They also encourage people that test positive for the HIV virus to have unprotected sex,as no such disease really exists

Nope. I shop at Wal-Mart on coccasion despite my feelings and have purchased things from the boy scouts despite the prejudice of their leaders.

Boycotting entire groups usually hurts individuals more than it hurts the leaders.

And IMO, boycotting those doll makers based on the things in that story would be absurd.
