Have you ever booked a resort

with a nice discount, ended up dropping it for another resort (and, perhaps, a different discount) but then later wished you would have kept the first resort (after it was too late to rebook the first resort with the original discount)?

I just booked CSR in Dec. with FD for 6 of our 8 nights (we're doing a RO for the first 2 nights). I'm pretty happy about it, but we'd really like to do a Poly/BC split stay. FD won't save us much for that, so we're waiting for room discounts.

If the room discounts entice us enough (and are available), we'll probably switch (which pains me somewhat b/c CSR with FD for 6 of 8 nights is a pretty good deal).

My concern if we switch has to do with the rumored refurb work at the Poly. These rumors include the possiblity of the Volcano Pool area being closed late this year as well as some preliminary work refurbing the GCH.

If I knew in advance that this would be the case during our trip, I would not switch my deal at CSR for Poly (even for a 40% room discount at the Poly). However, Disney often waits until the last minute to announce these things, often well past the 45 day no change fee window (like they recently did at GF).

So I worry that I'll switch resorts (losing our FD discount at CSR) and then find out afterword that some of the main areas of the Poly are out of commission. Even though we'll persumably have some other discout at the Poly, my enthusiasm for staying there wll be greatly diminished. But, at that point, it may be entirely too late to get a discount anywhere else (plus if it's after the 45 day window, we'd have to pay a change fee to boot).

Anyone else ever faced a similar situation? What did you ultimately do (FWIW, I'm religiously following Tikiman's site)?

I've done it. In fact, I have done it so much that, now, I just keep two separate reservations right up until I know for sure OR the last minute to cancel without penalty arrives.

What's a couple hundred dollars for peace of mind? And it really doesn't even cost you the money--it's just tied up for a short while.

I've done that too..like the PP I keep both reservations until right before the cancellation penalty. Rather be out 200 bucks for a bit than regret changing anything around til I'm absolutely sure

I have also had 2 reservations at the same time...just long enough to figure out what to do...like others have said, then I won't risk not getting what I want. Gosh...do they really wait until last minute to announce things like pool closings?

Can you book two separate resort reservations at the same time (with the same names on each reservation)?

I thought I'd read somewhere that Disney stopped allowing this a few years back. (if true, I suppose you could get around this as long as you have at least two adults in your party by splitting up the party when you make the original reservations. Then, when you ultimately decide where you'll stay, you move everyone back into the same room and cancel the other reservation).

In any event, with splits this starts to get messy. We're going with my parents and already have 4 reservations (2 separate room only ressies at CSR for Dec 8-10, and then 2 separate free dining ressies at CSR for Dec 10-16). A Poly BC split would require 4 additional ressies, for 8 total. Ugh.:faint: I can afford to make all of those deposits (and wait to get reimbursed) but it seems like such a hassle.

If only I had a crystal ball that would tell me what kinds of refurbs would be going on at the Poly in December and what kids of room discounts would be available, this would be so much easier.:confused3

Yes, I did regret the change.

I normally stay at POR; but we got the 4/3 deal to SSR at a $200.00 savings over the room discount at POR.

I thought it would be the same amentities as POR; on the river, close to DTD, water taxi, etc.

Myself and my two traveling companions even took the water taxi down to POR two evenings and said we all wished we had stayed where we were at.

OP, why don't you just leave the Poly for another trip? Can you do a split stay with CSR and BC? That way you could do BC instead of CSR for your 2 RO nights?

The potential for the Poly to be torn up would make me leery of wasting a great discount on CSR. Granted, Poly won't be completely out of commission, but until more details are released, I would be inclined to stick with a sure thing.

(Could you do FD for CSR and apply any potential RO discounts to a BC room?? I know you can't use two discounts for the same stay, but isn't this technically two different stays, so it might work?? Worth a shot I guess.)

Good luck deciding. Disney decisions stress me out, too!

I have a couple of reservations under my name for the same dates right now. I cannot decide which resort.

No one has said a word or asked me why, and I have spoken to many different cast members as I make changes and tinker with my reservations.

There's only me and my 8 year old on both the ressies, so no one thinks that I made a reservation for someone else.

And I realize we can't be in two places at once. So I am going to cancel one of the ressies, just as soon as I make up my mind. :rotfl:

Edited to add: When I call, I do not think the cast members are looking at all of my reservations. If I pointed out what I have done, they may ask me to change it. I think they are focusing on the one reservation that I am asking about for the moment, though, and not really paying attention to the other reservations I have made. For the record, I have about 5 current reservations for the month of August, and only a couple of them overlap in dates.
