Have you ever been truly scammed?

Once I called one of those "We really need to talk to you!" postcards and they slick-talked me into paying for magainzes...after I had time to do the math it would have costed me hundreds of dollars for magazines I had no interest in. Luckily I was able to cancel.

Last year I was not so lucky. I got into this "autosurfing" program. I was very concerned it wasn't legit but after seeing some evidence and testing it out, it seemed to be fine. Complete nonsense...it failed two weeks after I joined and I lost about $500. It's under investigation right now by the SEC and there is a chance I may get some money back, though I don't count on it. The scary thing is I was *this* close top putting in thousands of dollars into this program :scared1: I actually found out that this program collected over $500 MILLION in just 9 months!

Anyone else been scammed?

I got my money out just in time of the autosurf program. Though I still kind of feel like I wasn't taken for that much of a ride-I didn't put any money I couldn't afford to lose in.

When I lived in London I was walking home along the Thames and a Scottish guy came up to me, dressed nicely in a suit and tie, and said he was down for an interview but his car had broken down and asked if he could borrow bus fare. I was supposed to be going to Scotland later that week so he gave me a number and said he would meet me at the bus stop to give me the money back. (60 pounds, about 80 dollars.) Of course he wasn't there. Obviously I was scammed. But I still wonder once in a while, if he really was sincere and just forgot. (I have a lot of faith in people, can you tell?)

Just ONCE! And it was for only $20.00. Some guy in his late 60's walking with a cane stopped me in the street near the Port Authority Bus Terminal. He was crying and very upset he was pickpocketed! He had no way to get home to NJ, he needed $14.00 bus fare.
Since all I had was a twenty on me, I gave him that & my business card...HE INSISTED that he will mail me the $ back that night. He also gave me his name & phone #. I felt so flippen bad for him.

Needless to say the phone # was bogus and I never saw the $20.00 again!:confused3

I am getting ready to be scammed by DS18's choice of colleges
