About the parasols in Epcot...what is the parasol made of? Wondering if it's paper like the paper fans. Or is it water repellent fabric like a regular umbrella? I'm interested in getting one to keep the sun off my face as we tour Epcot. Also wondering just how sturdy they are, and if it's going to fall apart if I'm constantly folding and opening it. Would love to hear from someone who's bought one!

It's paper. We bought one for DD a few years ago. It might work for keeping the sun off but we have a problem with her "wacking" people with it in the crowds. It's more of a pretty keepsake and they put your name on it in Chinese. No, it isn't sturdy, more meant to be pretty.

My MIL bought one for sun protection- It was great! I will say that it will not work in the rain...

it works great for the sun!princess:
eta. I just checked mine, it is not paper more of a thin fabric. I did use it in the rain last year (light rain).

1) The China parasols are not sturdy.
2) MrsRustyScupper bought hers in France.
. . . cloth
. . . metal stays
. . . decorated with her name for free
3) EVERYTIME she goes to the parks, the parasol goes with her.

How much are they? I will be there in 5 days and would love to get one!! They are sold in France and China?

My dd has one. It is made of wood and a thin parachute-like material, but I would not count on it as waterproof. It is great for keeping the sun off you, but only in low crowds. And it has been opened and closed and dropped many times over the past three years, holding up fine.

I think the ones in Paris are a bit smaller in diameter so they might be better in crowds, but you still have to be really careful.

Thanks for the info!!!

Didn't realize they could be purchased in France too...sounds like some are paper and some are thin fabric. I might go for the thin fabric myself...I think it will make a useful & beautiful souvenir.
