Yes for the first time (Dec. 2010)

Off site motel.

Removed the hot plate to my car for the day when I was out of the room, so the staff would not see it. However utensils including some pots and pans were left in the room.

Not at Disney, but I have at another recent vacation.

We grocery shopped on the first day and got sandwich fixings, cereal, milk, the healthy choice pasta bowels, etc.

We also did burgers on the griddle. It stunk up the room and we will not do that again!

We took our Keurig coffee maker and fixed instant oatmeal and grits this trip for the mornings but thats all we have ever done.

It is a fire code violation. Most likely you won't get in trouble unless there is a problem but keep in mind they have this rules not just to make money but for safety of the guest. The only thing we have had before is cereal in a hotel room.

I would gag- I hate when dh cooks burgers in our kitchen instead of outdoors. I hate that heavy greasy meat smell.

What about running an extension cord from your room to your car and have your crockpot plugged in in the trunk. You could cook a nice roast.

I would not if you did not have a "cooking suite". I know that a hotplate would be too risky to have at WDW. I'm sure you would not want the added expense of paying to have a hotel room/ possibly the whole resort rebuilt due to negligence. ( not saying that you are being reckless and inconsiderate by using one, just that it is a big risk to take and one that could get you into some serious legal trouble if something were to go wrong) I'm sure that some have used one or two successfully but that is not a risk I am willing to assume

I say just don't chance it. If you really need to cook in your room, maybe you should check out the FW cabins or look into getting a 1 bedroom Villa with all the cooking amenities that you are looking for

My personal feeling is that if I can afford a vacation/hotel room, I can afford to eat out. Also, this is clearly a fire hazard. There are other ways to cut the budget, perhaps check out staying offsite and getting a house with a kitchen and pool, for less than a few nights at disney. Also, what kind of lesson are you teaching your children about breaking and violating rules and fire codes? Just something to think about!

get a small charcoal grill and cook a real dinner in the bathtub. With the fan on, I'm sure the carbon monoxide won't take out many folks. The ones who survive the carbon monoxide will be so thankful they won't even care about the lingering cooking odors.
