We are planning a trip to the Fort in a few weeks. We were going to spend a week with my folks in Titusville and then move over to the Fort for a few days and then head back home. Well sadly my step dad passed away unexpectedly. Last week.

Because we are so far away and because my youngest graduates in a few weeks, we decided that it would be best to wait until our planned visit. Mom thought we were going to spend the whole trip with her...I thought I could talk her into coming along to the Fort....

So now I have to decide will we or won't we keep our reservations at the Fort. I am leaning towards staying at her resort in Titusville the whole vacation. It would be the right thing to do...Feel bad for my daughter... we were going to celebrate her graduation.

Dreading having to dicsuss this with my DH later tonight...

I guess this depends on whether your mom needs any help. If there are things she needs to do because of her husband dying and wants help, I'd probably stay the whole time with her. If not, I'd offer her the chance to join you. In my family, my wife and kids carry a bit more weight than extended family. I would feel worse for depriving my DD of an anticipated trip than I would being there, longer for my mom. You will already be spending the majority of the trip with her.

I'm not sure how close you were to your step dad, but he wasn't your father. Your mom may appreciate a break from all the post funeral stuff by then and Disney is a way to not think about it for a while.

You know your mom best and what her needs will be.

We will stay with mom. She is 84 years old and you only have one mom. My step father was more like a dad to me and the only grandfather my children had.

The fort will always be there (I hope) and you only have one mother. We can always drive over to Epcot and spend the day.

Guess I will make the call in the morning.

So frustrating...I have been on hold listening to disney music for almost an hour trying to cancel this reservation. does anyone have a direct phone number to the fort so I can cancel that way?

Fort Wilderness front desk, I'm not sure if they can cancel or not, you might have to stay on with reservations. But, it's worth a try.

Thanks! They finally picked up and I was able to cancel...Wonder if they would have kept me on hold for over an hour if I was making a ressie and not canceling?
