Have they removed the clock radio from all the resorts?

I checked into All Star Sports yesterday, and there was no clock. So I phoned Mousekeeping and she said they had removed them. I told her how surprised I was to hear that. Every hotel room I have ever been in has had a clock. She said they don't have them here any more. I said, ok, I thought someone had stolen it. She checked and they had one they could put in the room for me. So, while we were out someone put a clock in our room and set the time for us.

Is this true, or was she stringing me on.

I was at WDW Dec 12 thru 19. I stayed at OKW, POFQ, and Poly villas and every room we were in had an alarm clock.

Surfing the net on the iPhone in bed while in the Contemporary finishing up a 3 night stay and lounging in bed while waiting for magical express time.

Reads thread.

Looks over at bedside table...

Dang! You're right! I hadn't even noticed!!! :D

They replaced it with a "power block" - two outlets and some USB charging ports.

I was surprised that we had one at the Polynesian because we stayed in a villa for a week in June and didn't have one. I don't know if they are removing them from all resorts or not but at the Poly they seem to be moving in the other direction. I'm reporting on what my experiences have been.

They are definitely removing them from all the resorts.

Okay, silly question---why??? Not that it's a big deal, but I like having a clock in the room. And every hotel I've ever stayed has had one. Middle of the night, you roll over, want to see the time, you just glance at the nightstand. Now I have to fumble to find my phone and hit a button to check the time? Yes, not a big deal, I know. But one of those little things that makes you wonder why Disney is scrimping on such things!

And I'm one of those people who immediately unplugs the hotel clock so I can use the outlet for my iPhone. There were more than a few times that I failed to check the hotel clock to make sure the alarm was turned off and I was awakened too early (for the previous occupant's early flight, I'm sure).

I have to use a white noise app to sleep and it displays the time in a less bright color than those of most hotel clocks. No fumbling to hit a button.

I do wonder, however, what the heck they are doing with all the old clocks.

Same here. I usually have the iPod, iPhone and iPad all plugged in and running the white noise app, and I set one of them to display as a clock. The other two I set so the display goes dark after a minute or two. Sometimes it takes a lot of white noise to keep other guests from waking me up as they go past the room, especially on the way to the parks early in the morning. I don't think the refurbished BWV room I had in September had a clock, but my YC room last month did (although I would guess they will go away during the refurbishment this year).

Just got back from a split stay. All Star Sports (Surfs Up section) did not have a clock radio. All Star Movies (Fantasia section) did have it.

Stayed at the Beach Club a few weeks back and No clock, my wife noticed but I did not. No big deal but strange, room was very nice otherwise.

Okay, silly question---why???

Because their research/surveys showed 86% of respondents don't use the clock. And of those, 95% would prefer more spots to charge their electronics.

I don't like it either, just answering the question.

We are going to miss the clock. Now I will have to buy a travel alarm clock so i can get up in the morning. We are from Canada and keep our cell phone off at all times or else we will get huge roaming fees while in the United States. I wonder if its another way to save money for wdw.

Deb.

You could use the wake up call option. Currently it's Olaf who wakes you up. And if you put your phone in Airplane Mode to save roaming charges and still be able to use it for keeping the time. We did this while traveling overseas.

I would agree it was a $$ savings grab if they just weren't replacing them if they broke. But they are removing them whether working or not and adding a charging dock. To me that's spending more $$.
