We were at WDW in September 2 years ago and we were introduced to the 'lovebugs' of Florida. ICK! Everytime we came out of our room at POR they stuck to us like crazy.
Has anyone seen them, have they come and gone or are they waiting till we get there at the end of September?

Thanks for sharing!

Bev

I don't think they were as bad this year. I saw some at the beginning of the summer, but I have not seen any recently.

I saw a few at Epcot yesterday, and there were some around my house yesterday also, so they are starting to come out. Hopefully they won't be too bad this year. They are such a pain to clean off the car!

Here in South Louisisana they are out in full force right now, they've been here for about a week. They are pretty bad this year, hopefully they will slow down soon.

I have started noticing them around my house in Louisiana too. At least I'm not doing all of the driving that I was last year. I hate having to get those things off of the front of my car. If you don't keep up with it meticulously, they can damage the paint and I swear you need a chisel to get some of them off of the front bumper.

My wife made a trip from Jax down to Ocala and back this weekend. The front of my truck is covered, and would have been worse had it not rained on the drive back.

Wait, I hate bugs. Sticking onto you? what are these things, and is there anyway to avoid them? bug spray like off to keep them at bay??What do they look like. I have a phobia of bugs. Oh no

yikes! is this what i have to look forward to in sept?
that doesn't sound like a fun initiation!

I wouldn't get too worried about these bugs ruining your trip. ;) We've been down twice in Sept (& will be back soon!) - while we do remember seeing these Love Bugs & commenting about them - I never remember any of them coming anywhere near me. :)

They are out & about this time of year, but really shouldn't bother you at the parks - we mostly saw them flying around at the resort.

Not sure how they are in Florida right now but here in South MS they are out in full force :guilty: I can not wait for them to go away!!

I was there two years ago in September and I don't recall seeing them at all. I remember reading threads about them, but didn't see any.

We played mini golf at Wintersummerland yesterday and didn't see any. I have not seen any on the yard here yet either.

We did, however, have a lot of things hitting the windshield on I-4. But whatever they were, they were a lot bigger than lovebugs.

Lovebugs, to those who have never experienced them, are a small black flying insect that swarm during certain times of year. During those swarms, they mate. So it is common to see two "stuck together" by their backsides. They are do not bite or sting, but can be quite annoying.

Left uncleaned, lovebugs that have been splattered on your car bumper have been said to actually destroy the paint.

The swarms do not tend to seek out people, so bug repellent really won't help.

Here is a drawing of what they look like:

No problem Crazy! Seriously, don't worry about the bugs. Go and enjoy.

My DD refers to them as the two headed bugs!

as long as they don't bite or sting, i'm cool. i deal with annoying everyday  i'm used to that.

thanks for the description and picture ted! it is appreciated.

I lived in Tampa for 5 years and I remember that there was 2 months that lovebugs came out. September and April...I think. They were just a hassle when driving and having them smashed all over your windshield. I would wax my car and that would help in making easier for them to be washed off. Good thing is that they die off after a few days.

They're baaack!! Live on the coast of al and they came back a few days ago....poor things- they just want to have a little fun....;)
