Having been a Dis member for years now, I understand the Dis police will be out in force here. But I am way too curious about this. Have they ever come up to you and actually stopped you from using your mugs when you bring them back?

I have never seen a CM stop people from using mugs from other resorts, paper cups or Rubbermaid thermos so I doubt they will stop you from using an old mug.

I am guilty of using my CBR mug at POR many times, no one even blinks an eye at it

We stayed at POR a couple of weeks ago and we did buy 3 mugs for our party of 5. What we did was just take our sons sippy cup and fill that. CM stood right there and didn't say anything. It could of been because we were filling 3 refillable cups and a cup from our room that you use for coffee for our MIL. I saw people refilling there regular cups that you would get when you order a meal on the plan over and over again day after day, so I think its really a trust issue between the CM and the resort guests. I felt bad doing what we did, but you know I looked at it as my 3 yr old didn't drink much and my MIL only had 1 cup of coffee a day. They got us for all of the souveniors we bought. LOL

What about re-using a mug that was purchased on the same property? Do they change the mugs each year? (i.e. we went in 2007 - we go in 2008 and stay at the same place - new mug?)

I have seen guests use some old mugs that were different colors, or even different hotels! I actually saw one guest use a big mug from The Rainorest Cafe at the ASMU resort! There were Cast members all around and no one said anything to them!

Cast Members have never came up to my family and I and said sorry you can not use those mugs anymore. Besides no one but your family member would know when they were purchased if the designs on the mugs never change.

I even asked a few Cast Members about this and they said WDW does not care if guests bring back old mugs, because the syrup and everything else involved with the mugs costs WDW nothing. Besides Coca Cola gives them the Syrup for free, in return WDW advertises Coca Cola all around the parks and etc. Those are words from Cast Members and not my own opinion, so I am just the messenger here. Finally one Cast Member told me they have a mug from Wilderness Lodge, that they have used in the past while at the All Star Resorts.

Basically what I've been told about the refillable mugs from CMs I know is this..

"People on the DIS are much more worried about mugs than Disney is.. "

They went on to explain that the syrup for all fountain soda at Disney is provided by Coke on a promotional basis. That is to say that the deal that Coke has with Disney is 'we provide you syrup for free'.

Now, having said that, I will still state the Disney policy when asked. But I think there's no reason to be militant about it. ;)

Yes. This CM is familiar with the DIS.

CanadianGuy,
I also have a similar story about a Cast Member who must have read Disboards from time to time, expect it did not involve mugs. Anyway this Cast Member was helping me out with something and when I asked him if it can be done he said it can. I then said to myself "I knew the people on Disboards were wrong" then he told me don't read Disboards, read another WDW message board site because they are a lot better.

During our trip to ASMu in 05/06 we were congratulated by a CM for remembering to bring our mugs back that were purchased at ASSp in 99/00 when they were "lifetime" at same resort.

I was tackled by a cm once. Only kidding. One trip I used an All star at Pop century and last trip I used an old pop century at pop century. No one said a thing and the cm's were standing right there.

You feeling fiesty today because the weather's turning crummy here again? ;) ;)

I have seen a CM stop a guest from using (of all things) a Dunkin Donuts mug, but I've never seen them stop anyone with an old or another resort's mug.

We have lifetime mugs also and I do not feel one bit guilty for still using them. I have guilt over many things, just not that. :cool1:

I have often wondered people leave their mugs in their rooms or other places when they leave and if they are gathered up, hopefully washed and then resold? Bet you could even find some on ebay. :)

There is a local amusement park in our state that offers free drinks with park admission as well as free sun lotion. It is not Disney though. ;)

Slightly Goofy (who also thinks the mugs could hold more than they do)

It makes sense that Cast Members stop guests from using non Disney mugs, so in that situation they were correct.

I've never seen or heard of a CM stopping someone for not using the proper mug.

I guess you can call them Disney mugs since they were being sold all around WDW, at stores like the World of Disney and etc. However they were not the Resort mugs which are sold at the counter service locations, but guests were still filling them up and no Cast Members were telling them to stop.

Never and I've been to WDW more than most people (4-6 trips a year). Actually alot of our CM friends have mugs and when visiting the resorts after work for a quick meal (usually at a mod or value resort) they bring their mugs with them. I too have received positive comments about bringing mugs back. Usually the CMs will say, glad to see you brought your mugs back for another trip! I bought several of our mugs back when they told us to bring them back next time (1995). I agree, their are alot of folks worrying about mugs, but none of them are CMs (at least the ones we know or meet).
